The NFL kicked off the regular season with a huge result in prime-time, bringing big numbers back to the networks. Over on cable, ‘Jersey Shore’ continued to dominate, but ‘Sons of Anarchy’ returned with a very good number.
With the broadcast networks quiet as they gear up for the new fall season, the big story was the record setting performance of the ‘VMAs’ on cable. Finally, something that was able to topple ‘Jersey Shore’ in the ratings.
‘The Glee Project’ finale brought a surprise ending. ‘Awkward’ had a surprise jump in the ratings. ‘Jersey Shore’ surprised nobody in dominating the week. And ‘NCIS’ gives us the Gibbsian Bar to use in gauging other cable entries.
Football has started, if you count the preseason. The ratings would suggest that about half of you don’t. Over on cable, ‘The Nine Lives Of Chloe King’ wrapped up its first season. Will there be a second?
Another slow week on the broadcast networks was highlighted by a down finale for ‘So You Think You Can Dance’. Over on cable, the future looks bright for TNT’s ‘Falling Skies’, which ended just a tenth below its premiere result.
I want my MTV! Well, I got it. A whole thirty years of rebellion and cutting-edge programming (as well as tons of crud) beamed into my eyeballs via VH-1 Classic, if you can believe that.
The week in DVDs brings ‘Burn Notice’, ‘SG:A’, ‘Supernatural’, ‘The Street’, ‘Wish Me Luck’, ‘The Bretts’, ‘Dennis The Menace’, ‘Man From Atlantis’, ‘Martin & Lewis’, ‘Lucy’, ‘Honeymooners’, ‘Conan’, ‘Justice League’, ‘Shaun The Sheep’, ‘Jersey Shore’, and ‘Snapped’.
