The True Blood finale was true to form: bloody and jam-packed. The good news was that some plots, like Sam and Luna trying to rescue Emma, converged with the Vampire Authority stuff. Naturally, Sookie and Jason take a break from investigating Warlow to end up there themselves. Stuff like Andy and his fairy baby mama was more marginalized, but it was entertaining, as Lafayette provided a running commentary.
The bad news is that my beloved Russell Edgington is dead — for realz, this time. Usually, that would disappoint me, but I find the idea of Bill being the new Lilith, and presumably the new Big Bad for Season Six intriguing. Pam has it right when she points out that Bill always had the temperament to become a religious fanatic, so even though I didn’t enjoy all the stuff that got him to this point, I am curious to see where it goes. (Plus, all you Sookie/Eric shippers out there must be thrilled, but Nora is still around to get in the way of that. Also, Sookie may come to realize that Jason was right about her and “dead boys”.)
And, wow, this had to be the bloodiest episode of True Blood ever, which is saying a lot. Sam’s method of killing Chancellor Harris was one of the bloodiest I have ever seen, even on this show. And then Eric and company stormed the Authority, and that made Sam’s thing pale by comparison.
There were a few quick developments in people’s love lives, not that they had time for that this episode. Of course, Holly probably is done with Andy after helping Maurella give birth to his fairy quadruplets. Jason shot down Jessica’s declaration of love pretty coldly; knowing what he knows about his parents (Who are now literally in his head!), this makes sense. And Pam and Tara finally kissed! I have been waiting for that for a few episodes now, and since I think their pairing has completely rejuvenated Tara’s character, I say ‘huzzah!”
Now that Bill has — very coldly and cannily — killed Salome, and Russell and the other Chancellors are dead, there is pretty much no one left in the Authority to stop his reign of terror. It’ll be up to Eric, Nora and company. This development makes me more excited for Season Six than I thought I would be going into this episode. Readers, are you excited by the idea of Baddie Bill, or have you had it with this show?
Notes and Quotes:
Very bloody finale! To quote Lafayette..”I did not see that shit coming!”
I was wondering why on earth Emma was licking Newlins face and still didn’t put it together when Steve spoke without the accent or seemed to notice the fly in the elevator. I hope Luna isn’t dead, Emma already lost her father. Skinwalking killed Sam’s bro Tommy though.
Loved Eric last night..saying..Hello to Pam as she walks into the elevator. He is so adorable when he’s being the hero.
Double standard though that we didn’t get full frontal from Bill as he rose from the blood..we had to look at Lilith a bunch of times!
Will miss the show!
One thing I love about this show is their disdain for the status quo. The Authority is dead, Bill is insane, Eric’s the hero now… bring on Season Six.
I think its going to take me a while to get pumped up for Season Six. I didn’t really like the various storylines this season and thought the finale was more ridiculous than fun. But Eric will bring me back into the fold, at least for the Season Six premier.
