Just when we’re getting all this news of new fall programming pickups from all the networks, a bit of an update comes in for a show I’m looking forward to returning, yet wasn’t expecting an update on. Vulture has a nice interview piece with American Horror Story (and Glee) creator Ryan Murphy, where he goes into what to expect from the upcoming second season of the series. It’s just enough to get AHS fans super excited for what’s to come for the show’s return, and then he adds in this little ditty about the future of the series beyond season two:
“I even know what the third season would be. There are very, very many different kinds of haunted houses in our culture. And there are a lot of different social topics that you can weave through that sort of prism.”
I knew some time ago that the second season would not be a continuation of the first season’s story, and even thought — and still think — it might anger fans. It’s not that I think it’s a bad idea, it’s just that there are plenty of people who’ve watched the show and aren’t like you fine people, reading websites for news about their favorite shows. There are casual TV-goers who just tune in when their favorite show returns, expecting some sort of continuity to resume when it does. Not having that with AHS‘s second season — and then topping it off with using some of the same actors in different roles — is going to confuse the hell out of the very few uninformed, sad, sad folks who haven’t read CliqueClack for that bit of news.
Getting back to my original intent of this post. If Murphy has an idea for the third season already, I can’t help but wonder what that might be. There’s no doubt an old insane asylum will be freakishly frightening in season two. So what could top that? The first type of place that comes to mind, to me, is a hotel — lots of potential history there and lots of varying stories and … occupants. But will Murphy pick something more unexpected than that? If so, then what?
What would you like to see for the next haunted location in season three?
I’m not thinking he’d do a hotel b/c of the two shows that are sort of like that coming up this season: 666 and there’s one other, too lazy to look it up! But maybe a haunted woods, complete with a spooky cabin or caves or something?
