The Celebrity Apprentice – The one where Donald Trump frowns on being pompous

Huh? Seriously. I need to know how a contestant can end up in the boardroom a record six times (Dayana) on The Celebrity Apprentice, and still live to see another task. Can anyone explain this to me?

Because I’m starting to think that either Trump has such a crush on Dayana Mendoza that he cannot see the forest through the trees, or Dayana has in her possession some blackmail pictures of the Don Don without his weird ass hair piece shopping in the aisles in his footie pajamas at Walmart.

Something certainly smells here, people.

And since this review is my ship to steer, I think I’ll start at the very ending. In the boardroom. I suppose I should be glad (and really I am) that my boy Clay did not get the oust for being the project manager this week. You know, his team lost and all. And there was definitely an argument to be made that Clay did in fact approve of Penn Jillette’s slogan idea which the executives absolutely hated. (Although with Lisa and Penn and Dayana showing their instantaneous support of the slogan, Clay would have had a hard time going against his team here. They were excited and hell bent on it.)

The slogan that Forte chose to represent Donald’s new cologne, “You’ve Earned It,” was not necessarily so awful in my opinion. I found myself guffawing at Trump’s reasoning that it was too “pompous” a saying to represent his name.  Um … really?

I had no clue that pomposity had any sort of limits in the mind of Donald Trump. The dude is the most outspoken, self proclaiming Inventor of Almost Everything! And this phrase was offensive to him from a brand messaging perspective?

Give me a break.

And thus, we lose Penn.

It’s not that I’ll miss Penn all that much. First of all he wasn’t even present on some of the tasks, throwing out ideas and then disappearing to do a show somewhere. (Yes, I know that leaving during the course of shooting must be approved by The Big T, but I don’t think it’s fair to take off and hence be excused from elimination that week for the simple reason you weren’t around to screw up.) There was also the whole fiasco with The Blue Man Group blowing their monetary donation for Penn all over the streets of New York, which was just stupid and possibly dangerous. And his “fight” with Clay earlier in the season over being challenged on his steamroller tactics …

But!

I agree with what Clay pointed out in the boardroom. Moving forward? The stronger team would involve Penn over Dayana. I really can’t conceptualize how the fact of finishing out the season and ultimately hiring the best apprentice is not at the forefront of Trump’s mind. Why not take into account past performance? Yeeks. In the “real world” this happens all the time.

If you or I have a bad week at work? We’re not fired because of one decision made during that week. An employer sees that we’ve just hit a bump, and dependent on our former offerings, he/she knows that in the future we’ll bounce back. Not so with the Trumpster.

From episode to episode, he makes his decisions in a very haphazard way, if you ask me. One week, if you’re the P.M. and you lose — you’re out. The next? You could be safe. I can only imagine what it must be like to be in his inner circle, or God forbid? His child. You’d be on your toes constantly, never knowing which way the wind is blowing.

And yes. I do realize that all of his antics are based on ratings and getting us all jawing. But that doesn’t mean I have to like the guy. Consistency seems to be more important to me all the time.

In this respect, I can’t see why Trump keeps Dayana around. He’s heard enough negative feedback about her to last a lifetime. Maybe it’s “eye candy” for his male viewers (and himself.) Maybe he’s getting off on playing a cat to Lisa Lampenelli’s mouse, and he’s just biding his time and waiting to watch her lose her mind over Dayana. (It certainly looks like she’ll come close next week, if you saw the preview.)

Who knows? We’re talking about a guy who can say or do anything, due to his wealth and power.

And don’t you think for a second that he doesn’t know it.

Arsenio was wrong in saying he came up with the slogan for his team. He didn’t. The dreaded Aubrey did. She was correct.

Clay is making more and more on-camera references to being gay. It’s good to see that he’s comfortable with letting that part of  himself come out, after all of his struggles with it concerning the media.

I wasn’t overly thrilled with either team’s presentations. In this area I agreed with the executives that parts of each were good, and those thrown together would make a legitimate campaign for the “Success” fragrance. (Yuck. I would never want a man of mine to smell like the Donald. *shiver*)

Lisa was actually calm this time around. Which was a relief. Wasn’t it?

Aubrey should be declared a Trump By Association. The kiss-ass little egomaniac.
