“Sing my precious little golden bird, sing!
I have hung my golden slipper around your neck.”
“It’s a trap!”
No … it’s not. However it is a set up episode.
I wasn’t too keen on this chapter of Grimm, but that’s what happens when you’re going for bigger and better things down the line. Lots of intrigue and hints of things to come, but little meat and potatoes:
- Capt. Renard continues to bait traps where Hank is concerned. (And there’s something more between him and Adalind we don’t know yet.)
- Monroe is getting comfy-cozy with Rosalie as she gets comfy herself in her late brother Freddy’s shop. (More hints: Those multiple passports he had tucked away on a shelf. He was obviously involved in some kind of mischief.)
- At this point, Juliette is well aware of the strangeness surrounding Nick, but attributes a lot of it to his mourning of Aunt Marie.
Oh … and there was the aside of the main story with Tim the Klaustreich (Josh Randall) and Lori the Seltenvogel (Azura Skye, Fiona in American Horror Story). And that’s just what it was, an aside.
You can’t really call it a throwaway episode of Grimm, but it was obvious this chapter contained lots of filler and little satisfaction.
Tidbits:
- On top of couch cushion stuffing, Sgt. Wu has taken to snacking on paper clips. I’m wingin’ it here, but I’d be willing to bet one single clip meets his recommended RDA. Wouldn’t you? (Shame there isn’t any printed nutrition label on the little buggers. But think about it: It’d be awfully difficult to read if there was.)
- All that trouble to extract the Unbezahlbar from Robin and it’s destroyed in a shower of golden shards. Uh … hello? Those aren’t worth anything?!? They are gold flakes after all.
- Juliette is forcing Nick’s hand by indirectly (and unknowingly) urging him to consider revealing to her the nature of his heritage. That’s what her “I can’t” response was to his marriage proposal. The thing is … she has no real clue what she’s getting into.
- Who was “the plant” Renard set up to further draw Hank in with Adalind the Hexenbiest? The guy wasn’t a reaper. He had to be “an associate” given the manner in which he thanked Renard “for the opportunity.” Interesting.
- Yes, the Brasserie Montmartre (“A Touch Of Paris”) — the final scene in the show where Hank is wining and dining Adalind — is a real place in Portland.
