In Plain Sight – The white wolf with tall dork and handsome

It seems that covering In Plain Sight has been a bit of a hot potato so far this season. Carla covered the premiere for An, and I’ve got it this week. An and I don’t seem to agree much, and her challenges with IPS last season are another example of that. Fortunately for everyone, we’re both on board with this season, even if I am a bit leery as to what the introduction of Norah into Mary’s life might mean.

Don’t get me wrong; I love the idea of Mary Shannon as a mother. But where everyone seems to think that Norah will humanize our favorite marshal, I’ve always thought she was already there. Mary’s got a gruff exterior … and crust and mantle and outer core, but there has always been a heart of gold hidden centermost part of being. What worries me is Mark … I just don’t want to live in a world where In Plain Sight concludes and leaves fans with any hint that he and Mary will live unhappily ever after.

I used to entertain the fantasy of Mary and Marshall living that particular fairy tale, but his relationship with Abigail has cured me of that. I’ve been enamored with her since she was first introduced (yet another area where An and I did not see eye to eye). Thus I was confused by the whole subplot with Heather the flirty tribal officer. If the producers want to tease a Mary and Marshall relationship as the series comes to a close – not a bad way to placate fans clamoring for it – that’s one thing. But whatever this was, it neither makes sense nor seemed interesting.

Finally, a personal note: I lived in Albuquerque for a couple of years, and have always enjoyed recognizing many of the locations they’ve used in town. I’ve never seen the venue that I opened there – however, the place where my ex works seems to be featured two to three times a season. In this episode, one of the establishing shots was almost a beautiful view of my park, but the camera was pointed about 20 degrees too far to the right. So close!!!
