In the words of Keith, “Japanese monsters are freakin’ creepy.” The Ring, The Grudge, he’s seen them all and said that this episode did them justice. A quality way to pay homage to a niche genre. Yeah, yeah, yeah … but did you see Bobby!?
When the flask emitted some EMFs, I knew we were going to get a little more about Bobby’s ghost, but I didn’t expect that we’d actually see him tonight. His appearance, though, brings us more questions than answers. We figured Bobby was helping out the boys (in fact, Keith and I were wondering last episode how many times ghost Bobby had said “Idjits” while getting Sam and Dean out of bind after bind) , that much we knew. But I’m wondering about a million things right now, some of which include:
I loved that they went back through all the clues that Bobby was haunting them, Sixth Sense style. But what’s it all mean? I hope that Bobby’ reappearance will somehow connect to the greater storyarc, and make the leviathan storyline relevant. Or, that it somehow elevates the theme of the series — that hunters always eventually die, that they die sooner than later, that everyone Sam and Dean touch dies, and that they can only rely on themselves and each other, that humanity will win out and that fighting the good fight will have some meaning. I can imagine Bobby’s death and ghost-ness being poignantly connected to all of this, if done right.
What do you think? How will Bobby’s ghostly reappearance fit into the greater scheme of things?

Not Japanese monsters, but ghosts. Godzilla — not scary. These ghost girls? Scary as hell.
Anyway, I was telling Deb that I thought maybe it’s not Bobby who’s moving swords and books and drinking beer, but instead some other entity alongside Bobby. If Bobby can move a sword or do those other things, why can’t he do something else? And then why be surprised the boys can’t see him? The whole thing seems odd.
When Dean was a spirit it took him time to learn how to Swayze thing, but he could do it when he got upset. Actually both boys had to learn in one episode. But I don’t know why Bobby hasn’t figured out how to control it yet. Dean actually suggested the flask in Slice Girls but Sam shot him down basically saying they were seeing what they wanted to see. That they’d burned him.Tried the EMF in that episode too. They haven’t burned the flask because they LIKE the thought of him being around.
Why haven’t Sam and Dean just burned the flask?
I don’t know, why don’t Dean and Sam rip their own hearts out of their chests and burn those too? They would never burn that flask unless they knew for 100% certainty that Bobby’s ghost was tied to it, and honestly I’m not sure they’d even do it then. I mean obviously, at least for now, Bobby’s ghost is entirely benevolent. I’m not sure that Sam and Dean would have the heart to “hunt” him.
It raises some thorny questions though. Right now Bobby is good. But if they allow him to remain on this plane, would he remain that way forever? I’m thinking no. Like the reaper Tess indicated back in season two, if you remain in the realm of the living after you’re dead, your ghost will eventually go insane.
Anyways I thought the ep was pretty good. It was kind of dumb that the little girl was drunk 5 seconds after taking a single sip of Vodka and OJ. And Garth was kind of hit or miss. He was funny sometimes, but other times he was just kind of useless filler. But the whole flask/Bobby story definitely elevated the ep, and the Shojo was interesting enough.

It’s not about hunting Bobby, it’s about laying him to rest and giving him some peace. They burned his bones for a reason; they don’t want him “stuck,” they want him to move on. Sure, they want him around (and so do I), but Dean’s known for taking on the tough stuff (like killing Amy), and he’d burn the flask if he felt he had to. I don’t actually think they should have, because there’s so much more we need to find out about Bobby, but it did raise the question for me.
i seriously hope they burn the flask and get rid of him for good im getting pretty tired of hearing idjits being yelled every five minutes
