This week, we have been celebrating the return of Fairly Legal with a Coffee Collection giveaway and character profiles from interviews at a recent set visit. If you missed any of the character profiles, check them out: Justin Patrick, Ben Grogan, and Lauren Reed.
It’s been almost a year since the season one finale of Fairly Legal, but only a month in TV time. When we last saw Kate, she had found out that she wasn’t pregnant, broke up with Justin, and was fired by Lauren. Things were not looking good for our favorite mediator, Kate.
It took Kate a month, but she returned to Reed and Reed like nothing happened. Of course, this did not make Lauren happy, but she had no choice since Kate now controlled half of the firm’s shares.
The battle between Lauren and Kate doesn’t look to be ending anytime soon. Perhaps, now that they both have a common goal — to save the firm — they can put aside their differences and work together. Lauren is uptight and Kate is a free-spirit, but somehow they have to find a way to put up with each other.
It was too bad that Kate didn’t see Lauren stand up for her and the firm with Bob Mahoney. Kate may have severed the merger by throwing her drink at him, but Lauren supported her decision when she said they would bring his firm down.
In order to save Reed and Reed, Lauren decided to bring on a new partner, Ben Grogan. He is motivated by money. Kate wants to do what’s right, Lauren wants to stick by the law, and Ben wants to make money. These three couldn’t be more different in their approach to the law, but that should make for some epic battles.
Unfortunately, the addition of Ben to the firm won’t be the biggest challenge Kate will have to face. For the first time, she truly opened up to Justin due to their conversation after his beating. His decision to run for district attorney provided the opportunity for her to celebrate with him and to clear the slate. The declaration of her feelings and why she had held back from him was touching. In that moment, I was rooting for them to work it all out.
But … it wasn’t to be. Since Kate was honest with him, he decided (stupidly?) to recipricate and told her that he had cheated on her. What?!? My heart dropped in that moment, just as Kate’s surely did. The dream of Kate and Justin together blew up.
Kate’s future was crushed in that moment, but at least she could count on Leo to be there for her. And, then … her boat blew up! Her marriage and her home both destroyed within hours of each other. No one should have to go through that.
Is there any possible way that Kate’s life could get worse? The firm’s in trouble. Lauren hired her nemosis, Ben. Her husband cheated on her. And, her home blew up! Fairly Legal is going to be a roller coaster following Kate this season.
