Army Wives – Jumping off a sinking ship

As if things on ‘Army Wives’ haven't gotten bad enough, along comes Kelli Williams into the fray. Lindsay was enjoyable on ‘The Practice’ for about a season … I see Jackie is picking up right where she left off.

- Season 6, Episode 3 - "The Best of Friends"

What in the world was that? I’m sure I’m not the only one left scratching my head after tonight’s latest episode of Army Wives, only the third installment in this new season. Just as we get a new year underway, Pamela’s gone. Just like that. Huh?

Two conflicting thoughts here. One wonders what she’s still doing on the show. The other ponders the random timing of her departure. Let’s explore.

Once upon a time Pamela was awesome. Remember season one, when she served as a surrogate, battled with Chase over everything, and built relationships with her fellow Army spouses? Awesome. So too was radio host Pamela, Coach Pamela, and even, at times, Officer Pamela. I cheered her reconciliation with Chase last season, because who wouldn’t want Jeremy Davidson back?

But it’s been a while since Pamela had anything remotely resembling interesting going on in her life. Her separation with Chase was explored for the possibility that she would be spun off onto her own series. That (thankfully) didn’t happen, and so at that point it made sense to reunite Pamela and Chase. How else to substantiate her sticking around Fort Marshall in the long term?

And yet she continued on her road to nowhere. I mean, seriously, Pamela has had nothing to do for seasons now. I hate to say it, but God only knows why the show jumped through hoops to keep her character if they were going to do nothing with her. The spin off opening could have been used to move her off the show even without somewhere else for her to land. They’ve given her practically nothing to do, so what was the point? That’s the “What’s she still doing here?” argument.

The randomness argument, on the other hand, is pretty self-evident. We are three episodes into a new season; Pamela and Chase are finally back together; Pamela’s settled into a career that makes her happy. What reason could there possibly be for moving her off the show now, of all times? If they weren’t going to lose her with a spin off, or with the failed spin off, or when Chase left for California, why inexplicably do it now? It doesn’t make any sense.

The one thing I can come up with is that Brigid Brannagh decided it was time to jump off a sinking ship, which I’d argue Army Wives has become. Roxy’s on a slow boat to nowhere … Denise landed in a coma and then came out of it over the course of one hour … Roland’s helping David acclimate to his new surroundings…. Only Claudia Joy has a marginally interesting story, and even that won’t become interesting until she wakes up to the fact that she just traded in her career for more high school queen bee and popularity contest nonsense. Boring!

So why did Pamela leave now, of all times? Why not? In fact, it might be harder to find reasons for not judging her for sticking around this long … okay, that’s mean, but I don’t know what’s become of this show. Anyone?

I’ve been surfing online more than 3 hours today, yet I by no means discovered any fascinating article like yours. It’s beautiful price sufficient for me. In my view, if all website owners and bloggers made good content material as you probably did, the internet will be a lot more useful than ever before.

I have to totally agree – there was a time I would NEVER miss this show but it has lost something, and not just Pamela. If I hear Roxie whine “Trevor” one more time, and Denise {who I love) is in a coma dreaming of her dead son in the present? Didn’t we do that with Amanda/Claudia Joy?? And if that isn’t bad enough, didn’t we do the good Claudia Joy with her really mean neighbor before??? Come on?? There has to be something fresh to write about here????????????

It has become sad & boring. I know a military family has many trials, deaths & losses, as I was a military brat as well. However, this show has killed off most of the kids, Claudia Joy’s & Denise’s. It’s bad enough to have military spouses die but when you make it the kids, & you no longer see the 2nd daughter of Claudia Joy’s you feel like something is sad all the time. Then, to see Pamela leave (one of the 4 main characters) Wow! It’s like…why should we watch? She left the show so it must mean we shouldn’t be I treated either? It’s so disappointing! Who’s Roxy’s equal? Her friend? I just toured the site where they film Army Wive’s last summer & was so excited it was back & they weren’t closing the base….again! But a main character? Gone? Really? Sad.

Gosh..you totally said all about where the wives have fallen…when Col Burton argues vinegar vs bleach at the community ctr…and the new General’s wife is rocking the “wives” lives ala high school, and then toss Pamela to California after her dramatic rescue of Finn….fraid the Army Wives is a.w.o.l.: “already without luck” damn, what a waste of such a great series!

Army Wives had an opportunity in the beginning to really change the show up. Roxy and Denise were both headed to the same base, why not just split up the crew, follow them and add new characters and plots?

(I think the reason for the initial leading in to PCSing at the end of last season was because they weren’t sure if they were going to be able to film in Charleston anymore, and when they were allowed they just stuck the story line here as well).

(Also, side note, I hate that all of them are Officer spouses now and that they changed Roxy’s style based on that instead of her growing up on her own)

Could it have something to do with the fact that all the spouse’s who are in the military are now officers? Chase was the only one who would still be enlisted. Don’t know why they changed the show in this manner but I am not liking this part of it. And now they have this whiney enlisted wife, “I don’t like this place. Oh, my husband/soldier is going to leave” I only have one thing to say, GET OVER IT! When you are married to the military you go where they go and deal with it. When you are married to a soldier you should have known what you are getting into. Yes, miss them, love them, but be strong for them when they leave. Show them you will have things under control when they are gone so they won’t have to worry about you when they are in the field.

Lets face it. The show hasn’t really been good since season 1. If you were friends with these women in real life, you wouldn’t hang around them lest you befall to the amount of crap that has happened to them. I mean really…. the writing on this show is so BAD…. how many times can you jump the shark and keep people interested? Good for Brigid for leaving or being forced to leave for a better situation. She is the lucky one…… blub…blub …blub (sinking ship)

Who’s funeral are they going too in April, 22’s episode? Is it Cladia Joy? They are talking about how much “she touched all their lives…”

I disagree with all of u. The show is great and I miss Pamela I wish they would bring her and chase back. If u have watched the show from the beginning u should all see where they are now in there lives. Its a great show and I hope to her to continue to watch it for more seasons to come. U guys r just plain prissy and arrogant to see how good the show is.

Is this the last year for Army Wives? I love the show and am not ready for it to end.
