What’s your favorite NBC sitcom? – Poll

Continuing our 2012 Comedy Bracket for March, it’s time to turn to NBC’s live-action sitcoms. Can any of the NBC lineup stand up to last week’s ABC winner, Cougar Town? The CliqueClack team has a lot to say in support of their NBC favorites:

There is no contest. No, really, because I only faithfully watch one NBC sitcom, and that is Community. It doesn’t get a whole lot funnier than this, because it combines clever and quirky and heart and pop culture and complete and utter insanity. I love that Community gambles and takes risks and nearly always come out on top in the quality department because of it. If only the ratings would follow suit. …

Community. Hands down. It’s awesome. Dan Harmon rocks and the show keeps growing.

After that, Parks and Recreation. 30Rock is still good, but it doesn’t reach the intellectual snarkery of Community and Parks and Rec. I hate to admit it, but Whitney has greatly improved. No, it isn’t at the level of Community, Parks and Rec or 30 Rock, but the characters have grown from their one-dimensional constructs in the beginning. And she does a lot of feminist humor which I dig. And, I love seeing Christina Applegate back on the sitcom grid in Up All Night.

You know what, for the most part all of NBC’s sitcoms are pretty good, but Community is still my number one.

Bob:

I do love Community, and my guess is that it is going to win this poll hands down (and get the most support from the team, as well), but I think I have to stick with my old standby 30 Rock. I love that Community is different and takes risks, but not every one of those risks pays off for me. 30 Rock, on the other hand, has been so consistent and I feel like this season has been one of its strongest to date. With the show entering syndication and getting a chance to revisit most of the episodes again, I’ve found them to stand up really well after five or six years. This show is still awesome.

Michael, your taste is bad, and you should feel bad.

This is the worst poll. This poll is Sophie’s Choice. I can’t possibly choose. It depends on what you want. Do you want cutting satire, extremely quotable lines, and a good heavy dose of absurdity? Go 30 Rock. Do you want political and social commentary packaged in a warm, fuzzy blanket of feelings and tied up in a bow made of super-endearing characters? Go Parks and Recreation. Do you want something snappy, laugh-out-loud funny (as opposed to the others, which make me just chuckle to myself) pop culture commentary that’s innovative and rule-breaking and not really comparable to anything else on TV? Go with Community. They’re a three-way tie for my favorite comedy/show on American TV and I cannot give a solid answer as to which is the best. You can ask me at different times during the same day and I will probably give you different answers. There is no right choice.

Whitney, however, is absolutely the wrong choice.

Chuck:

I have to agree with Bob. If I’m flipping channels and come across an old 30 Rock, I inevitably stop what I’m doing and finish watching the show. You have to give credit to NBC for letting them be so merciless with the ribbing, going right into the Comast … I mean Kabletown takeover. And besides the cast and the writing, I really dig the show’s music too.

Bob:

I’m assuming you know that Tina Fey’s husband writes all the music for the show? And has had several cameos as TGS’s piano player?

Chuck:

I did not. I just love the ’50s vibe it has.

Katie:

While I’ll check out Parks and Rec every now and then, my heart belongs to Community. It’s the funniest sitcom on television and I love that they’re always trying something new. The writing is smart and the dialogue is always clever. The fact is, they started with a clumsy pilot (it really was teetering on cliche) and decided to build characters that are as genuinely endearing as they are hilarious. The writers let the characters play to that actor’s strength and it makes for damn good television. Also, Inspector Spacetime.
