“Relax, Brother. We wouldn’t want your hair to fall out.” – Damon to Stefan
Trying to write about The Vampire Diaries is kind of like when you walk into an all-you-can-eat dark chocolate buffet, complete with chocolate fountain, strawberries dipped in chocolate, petit fours, of course, and mousse, flourless chocolate cake, truffles, Mexican hot chocolate … the point being I don’t know where to begin.
If someone had said to me at the beginning of the season that Caroline would fall for Klaus, Stefan would stay Angelus-like, Jeremy would be leaving, Klaus would be schmoozing with the Lockwoods, and there’d be a new love interest for Alaric (OK, that one I would believe), I would have laughed and told that person that surely they haven’t been following The Vampire Diaries as closely as I have. But I’d be wiping the egg off my face right about now, wouldn’t I?
So much was just jam-packed into that teeny-tiny hour of “Our Town.” The biggest thing I learned is that I’m just not sure anyone, even Klaus, can out-douche Stefan right now. I cannot, in my wildest dreams, fathom how he could ever win Elena back, especially after that stunt at the bridge (Just an aside — if Stefan threw her cell phone out the car window, how did she call Damon to pick her up?). It’s nice to see Stefan and Damon working together again, and the scenes are well-played; they have a different feel to them, now that Stefan is the one in need of redemption.
I didn’t expect Klaus to try to ingratiate himself to the council, and I’m not quite sure what that will get him in the long run. What has he convinced the town that he will protect them from? I can’t be the only one who sees Caroline falling for Klaus, and not just because of that diamond bracelet. Poor Tyler — first, Klaus uses his sire powers to get him to bite Caroline, then he one-ups Tyler’s charm bracelet with those links of happy sparkly goodness. Caroline’s going to be attracted to the power he has, to the wonders he can share with her, to feeling alive again. Don’t doubt me — this is all going to happen, clearly foreshadowed by the whole funeral scenario (which was so charming, and then even more so when followed up with Elena and Matt’s scene). You’ll be wiping the egg off your face, mark my words.
Amongst all of the supernatural goings-on, I most certainly didn’t expect a good ol’ fashioned murder mystery — and I love it! I’m not sure if I like Meredith very much, but since she’s going to be a likely murder suspect, I don’t think I’m supposed to quite yet. Ultimately, she won’t be the killer, but if we liked her right away, we wouldn’t get all caught up in the murder angst.
And even though there are a ton of serious things going on, The Vampire Diaries still doesn’t take itself too seriously, a trait I love in a show. The jokes about Stefan’s hair are frequent and I’ve said a million times in past posts that Mystic Falls has more benefits, fundraisers, townwide picnics and galas than any town in the history of the universe, so it was extra-funny to hear Alaric make that joke to Damon (the quotes are below and above).
This and that:
This is probably the best show I have ever watched!
That bridge moment between Elena and Matt was precious. They haven’t talked alone and especially haven’t leaned on each other in … what seems forever.
Could they be rekindling their romance? Never would have considered it, but that scene … I kinda want to see it! Some normalcy for Elena would be nice.

Oh, but I just couldn’t bear to see Matt get hurt again, and you know that’s what would happen. The pull of those Salvatore boys is too strong! ;-) I’m thinking they are really going to play up the Elena/Damon sexual tension, since Nina and Ian are a real-life couple. It would be kind of silly not to take advantage of that kind of chemistry.
Good point about Matt. I’d settle for them to just get a really good friendship thing going. He needs to find some love though.
I thought that too !! But I reckon that Barbie (Caroline) and Klaus will be perfect for each other xD
KLAROLINE!! one hell of a power couple! Oh yeah Im a shipper of KLAROLINE so im all up for it!!! she can fall in love like elena with damon! sigh!!
I never thought I’d be able to like Klaus in this show (though I love the actor who plays him), but with a Carolina and Klaus relationship I am fully onboard!
I agree! I never saw it coming…but I think its an awesome idea. Its will be a good balance for his character..
I really really thought that Bonnie would finally get a shot with one of the more powerful, lead characters. Why is it that Elena and Caroline always get persued by them instead?? I can’t imagine how simple sweet Caroline can keep Klaus’ interest??
KLAUS AND CAROLINE? Count me in!!!
I have to agree i never saw that coming with caroline/klaus and although do love the character i always thought he was temperary on the canvas. I wan’t a fan of caroline i thought her matt had potential but they broke that up and i found tyler and her boring. I think that maybe the writers like the character and are looking for a way to keep him because this war with stephen is only going to last so long until the next bad guy comes along. I do see potential with this pairing depending how they spin it and i think it is the first sign we have seen in klaus that he has a good side. Klaus is i guess sorta like how damon was before elana so maybe that is where they are going i for one am on board.

TVD does seem to have a pattern of making their bad guys soften up, after they realize they have awesome characters … I’m glad we’ll be seeing more of Klaus!
I HATED Klaus but now that they are showing his sweet side with his crush with Caroline he has won me over. Klaroline till the end!!!!
