Saturday Night Live – Jimmy Fallon / Michael Bublé

Reflections in a mirror, a warm horse, a joke-off and guest stars galore. It's the first time for Jimmy Fallon to host 'SNL'! We'll have clips of most of the sketches here when we have 'em!

- Season 37, Episode 10 - "Jimmy Fallon / Michael Bublé"

Cold Open: The Boston Teens — Well, they’re not “teens” anymore, but as a Boston-area guy myself (we call all of MA pretty much “Boston”), this was a great call-back from the past. It came complete with Rachel Dratch, Amy Poehler and, of course, Jimmy Fallon. Pissah!

Monologue: Jimmy Fallon — “Wow, so many memories. Barry Gibb Talk Show. Debbie Downer. Cow Bell. I laughed and ruined all of those sketches.” Really nice monologue, and I just have a real soft spot in my heart for Christmastime and SNL.

Today Show — Fallon does a pretty decent Regis, I gotta give him that. Overall, though, this is probably one of the better recurring sketches Wiig appears in.

Michael Bublé Christmas Duets — I thought this was just going to be OK, but I lost it and burst out laughing at the Thom Yourke and Justin Bieber impressions. Dear lord those were funny.

Jimmy Fallon Reflections — This was a pretty unique sketch and worked out pretty well. The two of them must have been trying to make each other laugh during the scene pictured above, which made it all the better.

Make Me Sing, Make Me Dance — This repeating sketch doesn’t usually do it for me, but the addition of Fallon’s character was pretty great. The raccoon’s at the end were … odd?

Tommy Palmese: Half Jewish, Half Italian, Completely Neurotic — I imagine this isn’t far off from some of the odd back-alley theater stuff out there that some inner-city artsy folks go out to see when they’re feeling … artsy. Have any of you seen something like this and can relate? It’s probably not too far off.

I Wish It Was Christmas Today — Wow, I didn’t recognize Horatio Sanz until he started to sing! That was a great mix of old-school SNL members, including Chris Kattan and Tracy Morgan. THIS is why Jimmy Fallon had to host the Christmas episode of SNL, or at least always come back for an appearance.

Musical Guest: Michael Bublé — A great musical guest to have on during Christmas. I’m more convinced than ever now that Bublé was drunk the last time he was the musical guest, since this time he seemed more with it.

Weekend Update — Another guest appearance, with Jude Law! And Tina Fey comes in for the Joke-Off and raises the roof of the studio in the process. Fallon really pulled out all the punches for his first guest host stint. I’d call him a god if he had Chevy Chase sitting there on the Joke-Off too.

Beethoven Introduces The Band — Meh, this one was a bit of a flop. I get what they were trying to do, and maybe it would have been better if the other sketches weren’t better.

Warm Horse — Again with the stage play humor. This was more absurd than funny, and I think I smiled more at the audience laughing at one point than at the actual skit.

Jesus Visits The Denver Broncos — Man this was great. I especially loved Jason Sudeikis’s Jesus. Given the fact I’m a Pats fan, it was all the sweeter. Great skit to end things off with, and the final goodbye on the Rockefeller ice: nice!

Humph. Without a full Barry Gibbs Talkshow sketch, I doubt I’ll even spin this up on the DVR. (Well, maybe just the cold open :P )

In that case you’d be missing out. The Tebow sketch alone makes it worth it.

Yes, because I’m so incredibly sure we share the same opinion of Tebow.

What was going on during Buble’s last performance? It looked like people (cast) in the crowd were trying to make him laugh. He nearly lost it at one point. Way too funny!

There also seemed to be issues prepping for that 2nd song. They returned from a break with a Buble image card and then the picture went out for 10 seconds and it cut to the SNL band picking up their instruments and starting to play into another commercial break. Maybe Duffy broke the gas line in 30 Rock again.

I thought that, too. There were a lot of pauses that struck me as odd – the song just didn’t flow very well IMO. It seemed choppy.

That aside, I loved him in the Christmas Duets sketch. His facial expressions were hilarious as was the “WTF?!” at the M.I.A. bit.

They all looked drunk. I have never seen so many glassy eyes on tv in my life! Yeah, Buble was so drunk. He was fidgeting so much.

Buble was either drunk, or he wasn’t pretending in the opening sketch when he pretended to snort come Coke. I agree, he looked and sounded better in his duet sketch, but I was ready for him to fall over on his two songs. I guess he drank the spirit of christmas!

I think this was one of the funnier episodes of SNL, especially since Jimmy Fallon returned. I wasn’t able to catch it when it originally aired since I was on a flight to California, and I never set my DVR to record the show, so I was out of luck then. I was able to watch it on DISH Online when I got back. I was dying of laughter! I’ve used DISH Online quite a lot lately, and I have seen that there are many different shows that are available even if you are not a subscriber. If you do subscribe, like me, there are even more shows and movies that you can watch. Whether or not I worked for DISH, I would still use DISH Online because it gives me another option to watch my shows even if I am not always home. I am excited to see more hilarious skits from the people of SNL!
