CommercialClack – Pleasant holiday commercials

Tara: Since Michael and I were rather “Grinchy” last week, we’ve decided to put on our collective Santa hats and give you a dose of Jolly commercials this go round.

Michael: For the record, I wasn’t grinchy. That spoiled tart was a real “winner” as far as I’m concerned. I meant every word I said. *hrmph*

But! Onward with some of the favorites! While this one isn’t exactly a “pleasant” holiday offering, it’s been one of my pet commercials since its original airing four years ago in 2007 because: 1) It features Gingerbread Men (… mmmmmmmmmm … gingerbread) and, 2) Norm MacDonald and Steve Buscemi! How can you go wrong?!? Unlikely pairing? Of course. But … comedy gold for the holidays as far as I’m concerned.

Tara: It’s hilarious I agree. Not only do true tv fanatics immediately recognize the voices, which is in itself a kick? There’s the great pay off at the end. It’s an adorable ad.

I find this one quite entertaining too …

Michael: Maybe you like these guys, Tara … but I’ve always found them a little creepy.  Plus, I’ve forever pictured them as George Milton and Lennie Small from Of Mice And Men and the film of same with Burgess Meredith and Lon Chaney Jr. (Not that Meredith or Chaney were creepy, you understand.)

Tara: You are a very weird man. Geez! Only you would think of such things. You see an M&M’s commercial and automatically jump to John Steinbeck? Someone out there? Please help me form a response! Although I’ve always liked Burgess Meredith. Especially in that Twilight Zone episode. But there you go, having us digressing.

Michael: “Digressing” … ?!? I beg your pardon! I was merely offering a comparison after saying those anthropomorphic candies were creepy.

Michael: And then! There’s this little ditty! I don’t know about you, Tara, but there are a few nostalgic commercials floating around out there reminding me of Christmastime (just like the wrapped up Debbie Reynolds above) … and this Norelco moldy oldy is one of them for me! Maybe it’s the mono sound … the cheesy music and wah wah guitar … or perhaps it’s the announcer I’ve heard a million times if I heard him once. Aaaaaahh … the memories that well up inside me from viewing this once again.
