Bones – Relationships out of order

Angela and Hodgins' challenges with little Michael are foreshadowing Booth and Bones'. Hopefully they can get the relationship challenges sorted before they start on the baby challenges.

- Season 7, Episode 5 - "The Twist in The Twister"

Parenthood isn’t easy. If there’s anything that Temperance Brennan and Seeley Booth can learn from their friends, it is that they have a long row to hoe raising their child. Bones has done a wonderful job reminding us that the relationship between the two leads is a work in progress. However, life will be a whole lot easier if they are closer to being on the same page when their child is born. We all know though, that “easier on them” does not necessarily equal good television for us, so I’m sure Bones and Booth are forever going to be finding the right balance with each other.

However, I really appreciate how they’re handling the evolution of their relationship. As much as I have been advocating for getting them together for a while now, I never wanted things to be perfect on the first day. That would be too clean and not at all realistic. They knew each other pretty well before, but living together and raising a child together is completely different. The challenges that they’re experiencing are normal — granted a bit out of order — and they’ll work through them like any healthy couple would. As long as they stay a healthy couple, that is.

I can forgive Angela and Hodgins’ story getting a little sitcom cliché because any excuse for Billy Gibbons to come to town is a good one in my book. I may not appreciate the blues as much as he and the younger Hodgins do, but anything that gets a baby to bed is good work. I’m just a little concerned for the boy’s ear drums — music that loud can’t be good, right?

This was the last Bones of the year. FOX decided to move “The Crack in the Code,” originally scheduled to run next week, to 2012 to help the launch of The Finder. I’m not sure that moving the episode was the best idea for fans of Bones, but anything to help The Finder (which has been retooled from it’s backdoor pilot last season) is probably good for the team as a whole.

Notes & Quotes

  • The cold open, with the screaming? Just a little too over the top for my tastes.
  • “Is she trying to get on the platform with a ‘Buy 10, Get one free’ yogurt card?” – Cam
  • “The only difference between try and triumph is a little ‘umph!’” – Fisher
  • “FBI open up. Come out with your hands up, in the air and your pants on!” – Booth
  • Was there any particular reason Sweets pulled his sidearm when trying to get everyone into the storm cellar?

One Response to “Bones – Relationships out of order”

Yes. Oh, yes. Their relationship as a couple has reached the point where all you can do is “awww” at the sight of their happiness. Especially during the scenes in the house, when he rubs her tummy, they disagree, apologize, and then confess their love for each other. It’s just the cutest thing. However, there was little romance of B&B this episode, I’m assuming because Emily is probably very pregnant when they were filming. A lot of Hodgins and Angela, but it’s good to also see their family start to grow and takeoff.

I am really upset about Bones being postponed, though. The season already started later than normal, just a month ago, and it’s shortened, too. The anticipation now for more Booth and Bones action has been building up for my friends and I, and this definitely put a downer on it. No offense, but I much prefer Bones over The Finder, sorry Hart Hanson. It’s not necessarily a bad show, just not as lively as the plot in Bones right now. That’s the main thing I’m a little upset by. But, other than that, I think it’s getting off to a good season, and I can’t wait until they have their baby.
