This particular Friday started off rather nicely for me. I got the opportunity to speak with Norman Reedus (Daryl Dixon) from The Walking Dead. What’s not to like?
After a few pleasantries and brief discussion about this year Comic-Con (where I had the pleasure of interviewing him there during a round table discussion), I asked what we could expect in the upcoming season.
Reedus revealed Daryl was actually written in after he originally auditioned for the character of his brother, Meryl Dixon. (Michael Rooker, of course, tried out for and was ultimately awarded the role.) During a California casting for a slew of new shows on the books for production, The Walking Dead was the only show Norman really dug when he read its script. But, in the end, there was no part in it for him. So impressed with his audition however, Frank Darabont ended up creating Daryl’s character for the show. The rest is pretty much history.
One of the more interesting items gleaned during from the call was the revelation we’ll be seeing some hefty Daryl back story down the line. While definitely an alpha male on The Walking Dead chalk-full of volatile tendencies and pissy demeanor, there’s obviously a whole lot more to him than what’s evident on the surface. In the coming weeks, we’re going to delve into Daryl’s childhood which promises to be pretty unveiling from what Norman said. Apparently, there’s a lot of emotional damage in his past, some pretty interesting dynamics between he and his brother Meryl and we’ll discover some of what makes Daryl tick. Exciting stuff, something all who are fans of the show can look foward to.
While news and secrets are closely guarded on The Walking Dead, it’s nice to nab a little tidbit of information such as this to share with everyone, something that amps up the anticipation of the new season.
Season 2 of The Walking Dead premieres this Sunday, October 16th. Are you ready for it?
Hope it doesn’t conflict with Bob’s Burgers wOOt!
why would it?
More Daryl is always a good thing on TWD.
