If you’re a germophobe, there are probably several things about Survivor that freak you out: cooking outdoors in less than sanitary conditions, doing your business in a hole in the jungle, not being able to bathe or brush your teeth, having to snuggle up to some stranger to keep warm … there are plenty of things to give you the heebie-jeebies. But tonight’s immunity/reward challenge took that ooginess to a whole ‘nother level.
To win immunity and reward, each team had ten minutes to rip chunks of meat, skin and fat off of a roasted pig. With their teeth. Hands tied behind their backs. Even Jeff Probst said it was a disgusting challenge, and disgusting it was as the camera got in nice and close as the players opened their mouths wide and shoved their faces as far into the carcass as they could in order to tear off a huge chunk of meat. Watching it was probably much worse that actually doing it, but it made my stomach turn a few times.
To make the challenge even more gross, the players couldn’t just spit the meat out, or drop it into the basket. Noooo, some of them had to spit every last ounce of liquid in their mouths along with the meat, and when one person got a piece wedged between their teeth, another tribe mate helpfully got up close and personal to pull it out for them. I hope someone brought some floss with them. Here’s the entire delightful segment for your dining pleasure.
The rest of the episode was mostly strategizing on Savaii’s side, with a few tribe member’s tired of the Ozzy/Elyse duo and Ozzy’s general laziness and arrogance around camp. Seems that catching fish every once in a while isn’t quite enough for someone who sees himself as the tribe’s leader. But a new leader seems to have emerged on the Savaii tribe.
Highlights from this episode:
It was a good episode. Makes me feel confident that it’s not going to be the vet’s running the show. But OMG, Brandon needs to leave. I feel like someone needs to punch him in the face or something so he has a real reason to cry.
*POST AUTHOR*
Well, Coach is kind of in the driver’s seat at the moment, but I think all of the interview footage with his over-confidence may be a little foreshadowing. As for Brandon, he’s just a kid who has taken on this challenge of restoring his family name, and with his background and other issues, I just don’t think he’s mentally prepared for the challenge of doing that and trying to fit in with a group of strangers to play a game that pretty much requires some level of deception. When he falls into those old Hantz habits, though, I have to wonder if it’s all an act to throw everyone off.
Disgusting episode. They kill to animals only to have them spit them out. Horrible….
So, with millions starving around the world, CBS and America rub it in their faces by having contestants bite off and spit out several pigs. Gluttony, excess and sheer spite. Screw you, Survivor.
That’s it for me. Never again
