Fringe ended last season with Peter sacrificing himself to save the two universes, tonight, we got our first glimpse into the world that he left behind. The two universes still exist and now have common ground to interact, but that doesn’t mean they get along. Even though Olivia and Fauxlivia never loved Peter, they still have a deep distrust of each other, perhaps even hate each other.
While in the finale, it was said that Peter never existed, that doesn’t seem to be the case. The observer said that they must never know he grew up into an adult. So, it seems that Peter did actually exist as a child. Is that tie to Walter what’s causing Peter to bleed through time and why Walter is the one who can see him?
Over there Lincoln was one of my favorite characters last season. I didn’t mind our Lincoln, but he just wasn’t very well-developed. I was happy to see him show up to work the case with Olivia. Since over there Lincoln and Fauxlivia have a strong connection and he loves her, even if she doesn’t reciprocate (though she might, we just don’t know), how will this play out? Will Lincoln and Olivia become partners at work and potentially more? Of course, I want Peter back, but Olivia doesn’t even know that he is who/what she is missing in her life.
The Fringe Division case was pretty normal for them. But, how does it fit into the bigger picture? Is Walternate involved or is there another group responsible? All the victims suffered from a metal deficiency, so why is metal necessary for these translucent people? As Olivia asks, “What are they?” and how are they becoming their victims? I’m guessing we haven’t seen the last of these beings.
Surprisingly, I didn’t miss Peter. I guess from the alternate universe episodes, we’re used to him missing for an episode here and there. And, even though, he doesn’t currently exist, his aura was definitely present. All I know is I’m still hooked! Where is Peter Bishop? I’ll patiently await the answer! For now, it appears he is “Neither Here Nor There.”
Other stuff:
AHMAZING!! this season will be brilliant…..
Best show on TV in my humble opinion and it keeps getting better. So little true sci-fi on TV right now, but if it has to be scarce at least this is a shining example of the genre. I’ll never forgive them for “Firefly” (Yeah, I know. Dead horse and all that…), but I have to give FOX credit for sticking by this show and the fans.
I’ll have to disagree, I missed Pete in this episode. I think the reason we didn’t miss him in the alternate universe was because of Lincoln, Charlie and the fact that we were too busy trying to figure out what was different in the alt-universe.
Good episode but I was a bit disappointed. I know this is a stepping stone to what is without a doubt going to be a great season but this didn’t seem like a season premiere. I hope they bring back Pete soon.
Peter Who? Helllllllo Lincoln Lee! (sorry Pacey)
Loved seeing Joe Flanigan (Stargate Atlantis) on the screen again in this episode. Even though they killed him off way too quickly. Oh how I miss my Flanigan… must rewatch Atlantis soon.
