Revenge – Somebody has to pay!

'Revenge' premiered tonight and it looks like the Hamptons is going to be a dangerous place now that Emily Thorne is in town!

- Season 1, Episode 1 - "Pilot"

I am in love with Revenge. I’ll just put that out there right away. In the first hour, we got to know the large cast of characters, the back story, and Emily started her revenge plans without delay. Oh, and there was a murder … well, if he is actually dead. The show covered so much ground, but it never felt like too much as it was well-paced and written.

The basis of the show, Emily’s quest for revenge for her wronged father is in itself very telling. Even though Emily loved her father, she couldn’t fulfill his dying wish that she forgive those that wronged them. He left her money that she could have used to enjoy herself or used to help others, but instead she defied him to seek revenge. At this point, I’m not exactly sure why she decided to take this path. It is a question I hope we get answered at some point. What is her motivation?

Even though it has been over 15 years since her father’s trial, I’m surprised that Nolan was the only one to figure out that Emily was Amanda. The Grayson family doesn’t seem to be the type that would turn in a former friend and colleague and then not keep tabs on David and his daughter. I’m not saying they would do anything to help her, but I’d think they would know what was going on with both of them. Though, perhaps, there is more to this story as well.

The storyline I’m most looking forward to watching is the relationship between Emily and her childhood friend, Jack Porter. Sam, the dog, has to die sometime this season, right? He has to be getting old, though he was running around pretty well for an old dog. How is Jack involved with Daniel’s shooting? Is Emily involved? She did wipe sand off her hand when she was at the ice sculpture.

Emily is smart and quickly integrated herself into the lives of those around her. I’m looking forward to seeing how she manipulates situations to get her revenge. If her scheming remains as entertaining as in the pilot, we are in for a fun ride. I loved how she manipulated the situation at hotel to force Conrad and Lydia out in the open and then outed Lydia to Victoria such a nonchalant manner. Brilliant.

Are you hooked already like I am?

I’m looking forward to watching this, but I’m concerned … how long can they really sustain this revenge storyline before it gets into shark jumping territory?

What do you mean by shark jumping? Seems really early to worry about that. There are plenty of people and ways for her to get revenge :)

Yes, this has a similar structure to Damages, and although I haven’t seen the latest season, it was far from jumping any sharks. If it’s well-written, we’ll be OK.

Why was Amanda (Emily) in prison? It showed her being released but somehow I did not get why she was there in the first place.

Wait … Watching episode two, and they recast Marc Blucas, who was originally playing Emily’s dad. I guess he had to stick around ‘Necessary Roughness’ a while longer Bummer!

Love this. She’ s so much better here than she was as Rebecca on B&S.
