TV SHOWS COLUMNS FEATURES CHATS QUESTIONS

Are you looking forward to The X Factor?

Drama, here you come again with a repeat performance by Simon Cowell and Paula Abdul. The new fall season of television could be a rating's wild one, folks.

It’s not news: I miss Paula Abdul.

Something, however, hadn’t yet tripped my trigger about her upcoming stint on The X Factor. The fact she has a place right next to Simon Cowell on the fledgling Fox program wasn’t even enough to really raise an eyebrow.

And then these quotations came along in this article:

Asked how it felt to be working again with Cowell, Abdul told reporters, “It’s nice to be back in a demented relationship. It’s like home.”

“I think its more like ‘The Exorcist 2′,” retorted Cowell.

I’m so easy. It’s throwaway drama — complete with sideshow antics — that bring a little smile to my face, nice little diversions to compliment your day, let you escape for a moment or two.

So, right now I’m sold. (Right. Like there was ever any doubt, Michael.)

And speaking of drama, the video below provides a clue of what we’ll be seeing come September:

While The X Factor may be yet another in the glut of reality programming flotsam and jetsam inking its imprint on the Fall television season schedule, I’ll still tune in to see what all the hoopla is about.

Remember how The Voice was hit-and-miss fun during its first run? The X Factor will no doubt do the same. A series of little television presents to unwrap each week, something new to discover right through the holidays.

I’ve a feeling all that wrapping is gonna get messy.

Side Note: Just like Coca-Cola on American Idol, I see Pepsi is a major player in the show … big logo cups right there on the judge’s table.

Okay, I get it. All except the nearly subliminal appearance of the American flag at the end of the second video. Is that there to remind us, in spite of all the British accents, this is being shot in America?

Isn’t it going to be harder for Paula and Simon to appear to cat fight when they have worked so hard to be next to each other again? And, with Simon having so much creative control of the show, are we supposed to believe Paula is a gallantly tolerated nuisance? Oh, well, given the level of reality in “reality” programming, Paula’s effusive appearance should fit right in.
