The Kinetic King, kinetic artist: That was the worst Top 48 act ever on AGT. It took KK 36 hours to set his art up for this week’s performance, and it took less than 90 seconds for it to go awry. Actually, within the first 10 seconds or so the performance was already one of the show’s biggest flops ever! It’s probably a combination of The King letting an assistant set the art in motion, mixed with humidity and potential bad layout of the sticks. It did seem impressive on the floor, though. Kudos to KK for taking it with a grain of salt and even going as far as saying “I guess I have to be famous for something!” and, when asked what that “something” was, answering “being the biggest loser of America’s Got Talent.”
Zuma Zuma, dancers: The group’s routine this week was energetic, dangerous, and badass! Their moves on the poles were CRAZY! Their jumps from pole to pole while making twists and turns as they jumped was jaw dropping. They definitely have the “wow” factor. Not only did the judges love it but Piers even liked this type of male pole dancing!
Avery and the Calico Hearts, singers: These three girls offered yet again a fun performance. Sadly, Avery’s voice sounded too high — Sharon said they sounded chipmunky — but the vocals were great. As I said before (and Howie mentioned it too), Avery needs her own TV show. Disney Channel must make her sign a contract to become the next Hannah Montana. I have to agree with Piers that this trio will be ready to take the world by storm in about five years when their voices mature.
Charles Peachock, juggler: Despite Sharon and Howie X-ing this performance, we have to admit that it was quite impressive to watch Charles perform two songs on the piano by juggling balls on the keys! He did miss a few notes, but most of his performance was spot-on. What’s most impressive is that the balls are bigger than the white keys, making it more challenging to hit the right notes.
Sam B., dancer: If you’ve read my reviews of past episodes, you know that I don’t think Sam B. deserved a spot in the Top 48. Yes, he might be fun to watch, but his dancing is nowhere near the level of dancing of such a competition. His confidence and wackiness may work on the dance floor of the local bar, but not on the AGT stage. As Piers and Sharon pointed out, he didn’t change a move — note that Sharon said it as a positive element while Piers saw that as a negative — and performed about the same routine as he did before on the show. Dear America, please don’t listen to Howie who wants you to vote for Sam B. Instead, vote for an act that you would pay some big bucks to go see performing on the Vegas Strip. It’s time to end Sam B’s 15 minutes of fame.
Taylor Davis, singer: The stage setting was very nice for Taylor’s performance. However, I have to agree with Piers, who X-ed Taylor, when he said that Taylor sounded off-key. The other two judges didn’t agree but I bet they will when they re-watch the performance as we, the viewers, saw it. Sharon loved the performance but didn’t like the song choice, as maybe not a lot of people know it.
Melissa Villasenor, impersonator: Her performance tonight wasn’t too bad, but it was not as good as her audition. Her impressions were not always spot-on. For example, her voice during her Sharon Osbourne impression was way too high and not enough British. See for yourself in the clip below. Howie reminded everyone that there is nothing harder than comedy and that Melissa deserves to be in. I hope that America votes for Melissa based off her audition, as she is a very talented impersonator who deserves a chance to shine.
Scott Alexander, magician: His gospel-choir-disappearing trick was well executed, but the huge curtain behind them and the “box” took a bit of the magic away as we, the viewers, more than likely all thought that they went through there somehow, even though the curtain didn’t move. Plus, there were so many people in the choir that it was difficult to remember their faces in order to see if we recognized any of them when they reappeared, making it a little bit less magical as maybe the group that reappeared wasn’t the same group that disappeared. The cameras didn’t focus on the group that reappeared long enough for viewers to confirm it was indeed the same group. Nonetheless, Scott is a very good magician who upped his showmanship this week and who deserves to move on to the next round.
Fatally Unique, dancers: Howie needs to get out of my head as he took away my comment that their routine looked like Janet Jackson’s Rythmn Nation with a 2011 twist. They have definitely stepped it up this week with a tight routine that included some dangerous moves. But is it enough?
Yellow Design Stunt Team, acrobatics: Despite the small fall at the end, this stunt team offered a rather cool and impressive acrobatic routine. Sadly, the wacky and colorful images on the screen in the middle of the stage made it a tad more difficult to properly see the tricks they performed on the middle ramps. All judges loved the performance, and Piers didn’t even X them after one member fell!
Frank Miles, daring act performer: This would have been an “OMG! Look at what he did!” type of performance if only the last arrow had pierced the jelly donut. It might not be worth a million dollar performance, but Frank has the goods to deliver an exciting show as the headliner not only because of the dangerous tricks he does but also thanks to his humor.
Team iLuminate, dancers: AMAZING! Once again this week Team iLuminate impressed everyone with their routine, which mixed dance and technology. They got a standing ovation from the crowd and the three judges. Howie thinks they can win this season of AGT. Sharon said they are a world class act, while Piers said it is a million dollar act. They are clearly the judges’ favorites. See for yourself in the clip below.
My picks to go through to the next round: Zuma Zuma, Melissa Villasenor (mostly based off her audition), Scott Alexander, and Team iLuminate. Yours?
