Weeds – Does this mean Conrad’s not returning?

Oh, Dean. I’ve loved him and I’ve hated him, but there was nothing wrong with his speech to Silas about seizing your youth and contracting as many VDs as possible. I’m just wondering … how many of those diseases came from Celia?

- Season 7, Episode 6 - "Object Impermanence"

I wouldn’t have thought that anyone — save for maybe Conrad or Guillermo — could upstage the closing moment appearance of Heylia (Tonye Patano) on last week’s episode of Weeds. Well … I was right and wrong. It wasn’t so much his appearance as it was Dean’s (Andy Milder) mere presence in Heylia’s house — pulling up his pants for whatever reason — that surpassed last week’s awesome surprise. How great was it that his first thought was to ask if Celia was with Nancy?

While I wish we had gotten a bit more clarity on Dean’s story — maybe once his bear trap injuries heal — I loved the entire situation that Nancy and Silas’ visit to Heylia establishes. Heylia’s role as Nancy’s MILF weed supplier will take a back seat to the impact she’ll have on what is quickly becoming the central theme of this season: Nancy’s relationship with each of her sons, and in Heylia’s case specifically Silas. “Give me Silas.” Awesome.

Good for Silas for confronting Nancy about the whole Lars thing, but what exactly did he expect from her? I’m not letting her off the hook, but that’s a reality that will only ever rest comfortably on him when he’s ready to come to terms with it. I hope Silas will never stop seeing Judah as his father, but what Nancy did or didn’t tell him isn’t going to make that difference.

Shane’s kind of pathetic. I’m not saying he should “move on” from his mommy, but his desperate need to please Nancy is so jarring when compared with the years he spent practically indifferent to her. I doubt he spent three years in Copenhagen dreaming that she’d saved his life, so it seems kind of odd that he suddenly be in a mad dash to pay her back. And while Andy’s dumb business — which I’ll get to momentarily — is a really fun way to introduce it, front stores for mom are so early seasons of the show. Just go to school!

Especially after his display during class with the detective and his “rape suspect.” Part of me thought it might be funnier if the guy (Melvin Abston) was a real lowlife, but I do like what it says about Shane that he not only called him on it, but also physically unmasked him. I could see Shane’s relationship with the detective going in a whole other direction having nothing to do with asking questions that help make a better front business for mommy’s pot distribution. Serial killer, anyone?

As for The Copenhagen Wheel … it’s one of those absurd plots that are perfect for Andy. I can see some viewing it as “something to do” for him, but that’s what makes it perfect. In just one episode he not only completely embarrassed himself in front of investors — clearly they’re not actively involved in venture capital — but he did so with the most absurd of all sales videos imaginable. I loved it!

And just out of curiosity: how many student loans would Shane have had to take out to have $80,000 on-hand to invest in Andy’s idiot idea? Those checks come in by semester, and he’s going to City College … twenty? Thirty? Does he realize they come due at some point?

And while I’m asking stuff, what do you think: Nancy hugging Stevie after Scott (Mel Fair) does her a solid … real, or her imagination? I wasn’t sure.
