Seems like a lot of things are fresh on Entourage as we head into the show’s final season. Well, maybe not fresh so much as different … or heading in a new direction.
Not Turtle. With Mark Cuban’s money in hand, Turtle seems to be doing just fine with his tequila business. Nothing much to report there … although he did burn the house down, so he’s the catalyst to their moving to a new place!
Eric and Sloan have finally called it quits. Again. I assume that Eric erupting at Sloan after Terrance (Malcolm McDowell) asked him to sign a prenuptial agreement had a lot to do with it, but I wonder how much of their fight may have stemmed from Eric’s terrible decision to join forces with Scott and throw Murray (George Segal) out of his own business. If Eric truly is dumb enough to have believed Terrance when Sloan’s father claimed that Murray wasn’t happy with Eric — at a moment when Terrance was clearly looking for maximum leverage — then maybe he really isn’t qualified to be representing anyone in anything.
As far as his trusting Scott enough to have joined him instead of fighting against him … let’s just say that I can’t believe Scott Caan’s still on the show.
Johnny’s new animated series, Johnny’s Bananas, is getting off the ground with Andrew Dice Clay playing second banana. Forgetting about how little I’m looking forward to seeing Dice Clay on the show, Drama was infinitely more annoying in the premiere than he’s been in a long time. Would it be possible for him to say “baby bro” more times in thirty minutes? But I did like the impromptu surprise party that he pulled out of nowhere. Nice move by Billy corralling all those girls. Now how about finding more for Rhys Coiro to do?
I was bored by Vince’s addiction story last season, but I still hold out hope that this season won’t just be an outgrowth of that. Sure he needs some time to readjust after his stay in rehab, but hopefully he’ll get back to being an A-lister quickly. His Romanian Miner movie idea is awful, so I definitely think it’s perfect for Drama. But I want to see more Vince seasons 1-6 and zero Vince season seven as the show draws to a close.
What once was a show about a movie star and his hangers-on looks destined to turn off the lights while focused on a tangential character. Of course Ari’s never been tangential, but while he’s generally happy to “roll with,” he isn’t a real part of the titular group. So it’s exciting to have seen how desperate he is to put his life back together … a really nice emotional story on a show that’s all about laughs, sex, and good times.
When Mrs. Ari told him that she’d started seeing someone — in under ten weeks? — his tears were real. Interestingly, Jeremy Piven the theater actor has been playing against type for seven seasons; is it possible he’ll be given the chance to show the range that caught the eye of Entourage’s casting director in the first place?
I, for one, would love to find out. Go get her, Ari!
The Ari-Mrs. Ari scene was painful.
Other than that, after stinking it up last year, this was NOT a strong start.
