It’s a bit of an odd week of releases. There are a bunch of sets available, but not a lot of the big name, current, variety. Still, the week brings some interesting classics (Simon & Simon, Melrose, Punky Brewster, Hey Dude), some animation (Smurfs, Young Justice, The Littles), and two greats from our friends across the Atlantic (Doctor Who, Torchwood). For my pick of the week though, I’m going to complicate matters.
Normally, I just omit sets that are only getting a Canadian release. Not that there is anything wrong with Canadian DVDs, mind you, but the CliqueClack headquarters remain in the US, despite all those sweet offers from St John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador. I’m going to skip that usual bit of editing this week, and suggest you do the extra work to foster your contacts in the back-bacon underground so you can get your mitts on Republic of Doyle. Season two has just been released, but there are maple-market season one sets available in the states.
Here in Seattle, we’ve been gifted with the CBC on our cable system, and the adventures of Jake Doyle are one of the highlights of that little bit of programming. It’s become can’t miss TV for me.
