This week on The Big C the theme was pretty darned clear: SEX.
Just about everyone was having it and when they weren’t, they were talking about it. Heck, some folks were even having it with themselves. I think my favorite part of this young season has been Cathy and Paul coming back together as a couple. Sure, there was some drama this week as the two had it out about their mutual affairs over the previous year, but at the end of the day, they are still a team. Watching Cathy use the sexy talk on Paul was oddly sweet, as far as scenes involving sex toys are concerned.
Elsewhere this week a newly medicated Sean was a little too open with Rebecca, his newfound clarity pointing out every little detail about her body — including some questionable ones. I guess pregnancy hormones and medicated bipolar patients just don’t mix. However, even those two found a compromise in their relationship. Frankly, it was strange to see everyone so happy. I was a little annoyed with Rebecca last week, but I do enjoy the character when she is with Sean. I’m a little concerned, though, because a big name like Cynthia Nixon is not likely to hang around for a full season as a guest star. I’m hoping that this doesn’t mean that Rebecca and Sean are headed for a messy break up.
Oliver Platt really owned this episode. I enjoyed watching his interactions with Andrea (even if Gabourey Sidibe’s acting comes off as a bit wooden at times). It’s going to be interesting seeing how the plot develops throughout the season, but for right now, I’m on board with Andrea living with the Jamisons. Between his scenes with Sidibe, his masturbation, his sex scene with Linney, Platt really was the star this week. And on a show starring Laura Linney, that’s saying something.
Finally, there was Adam, who was also getting some this week, cashing in on the sympathies of his young female classmates. I have the sneaking suspicion that his actions are going to come back and bite him in the ass….
