On Curb’s season premiere, it’s divorces all around! Except for you, Jeff

It looks as if the eighth season of 'Curb Your Enthusiasm' is going to follow guys being divorced, getting divorced, or wishing they were divorced.

- Season 8, Episode 1 - "The Divorce"

I’ve gotta say, I love the Funkhouser. In fact, he’s one of my favorite aspects of Curb these days, and to see him in the show’s eighth season premiere made my night. I’ve loved Bob Einstein since the old days of Bizarre, as the legendary Super Dave Osborne, and I’m betting there are many others out there who’ve known him for more than that — he used to write for The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour in the ’60s!

Now with Larry and Funkhouser sharing the divorced life, it sure seems we we’re being led to believe this new life of divorced guys hanging out together is what this season’s all about. I always find it funny as hell that these people who usually hate Larry’s guts always seem to bounce back to loving the guy. Look at that picture above — daggers at Larry! Yet, at the end of the episode, he’s rejoicing at the prospect of hanging out with the guy. Man, I just loved that scene pictured above — laughed out loud.

Speaking of people who hate/love Larry, the dialogue between Susie and Larry is always funny and interesting to watch, as she’ll want to rip his dick off in one moment, then 30 seconds later be laughing with the guy, saying she knows he loves her. I just gotta shake my head at the whole thing, but it’s nothing short of entertaining.

So, is following a bunch of divorced guys going to be a worthwhile theme to the season? For a show like this, I don’t think it matters — we just sit back each week and cringe and laugh as Larry does what he does best: misunderstanding and being misunderstood.

The best quote of the night goes to Susie, with this gem:

“What are you fucking kidding me? You think we’re gonna have a nice divorce if we ever get divorced? No fucking way! I’m taking you for everything you have, mister. I’m taking your balls and I’m thumbtacking them to the wall. You’re gonna get nothing out of it. You mention the D-word once in your fucking life and you’ll rue the day you ever met me.”

Bob Einstein was also Larry Middleman the surrogate in Arrested Development.
