Some of the acts not going through:
The Worst of the Worst: Manchego (see the picture above) wins the “worst of the worst” title for this episode. Not only was his performance lacking any type of talent but it was not entertaining and was a tad creepy. Putting on tons of underwear and removing them on stage is not talent. He did get his 90 seconds of fame though. I was surprised that only Piers Xed Manchego but maybe the other two judges were just shocked and curious to see what how low he would go. Luckily for the viewers, we didn’t get to see Manchego without any underwear as it was implied the audience and judges did.
Some of the acts going through:
The “I Can’t Believe this Act is Going to Vegas” act: The “Meet Me At Fairfax and 3rd” act was bad. The singing was not good and the guy doing some leg stretching upside-down on the chair was not talent. Yes, seeing old folks perform such an act can be fun but what they offered us was nowhere near good enough for Vegas. Despite what I think, the act got a good number of laughs from the crowd. The judges, who admitted the performance was horrible, said yes to Vegas as they were entertained. I don’t get this decision. Piers said he didn’t know what to think as it was a ludicrous act even if entertaining. Howie even went as far as saying that it was an act made of two “nothings” but then said that the combination of nothing made, well, something… I don’t agree; the two “nothings” made an overall “nothing.” Let’s hope they don’t get a spot in the Top 48.
The Show Stealers: Again this week, kids stole the show! This time, it was Avery and the Calico Hearts. These three young singers won the crowd and viewers even before starting to sing with their attitude, their big smile and the “Piers scares me” admission from one of them. Young Avery is the lead singer while the other two ladies do back vocals. Avery not only owned the stage but her voice was quite impressive, even though not fully matured (Howie referred to their singing as “a record one speed too fast”). The backup singers have very good voices too and the mesh of all their voices together worked really well. Piers voted no as he didn’t think that this was the right year for them compared to the other singers. To this, I tell Piers that you voted for the “Meet Me At Fairfax and 3rd” act, you have to let Avery and the Calico Hearts go through as well. Thankfully, Sharon and Howie said yes to the young trio.
The Best of the Best: Despite one mistake (one of the tumblers accidentally hit another member of the team and both fell down), Chicago’s Ultimate Tumblers rocked the house! We’ve seen tumblers in previous episodes but none were as impressive as the CUT tumblers as they raised the bar by using a trampoline to jump and tumble even higher and even had to jump over a human pyramid. I was surprised that Piers didn’t X them when one of the tumblers hit the young woman as he usually Xes acts when there is an error (like a juggler dropping a prop on the floor).
