Rarely does a show cause me to break out in a huge smile, but Suits did that tonight. At the end, after all the maneuvering by Harvey, Louis and then Mike … I just had to smile. This episode was full of tension, twists and turns, and then resolutions that made “Errors and Omissions” one of my favorite episodes of any show in a while. When it was over, I wanted to watch it again and see the story unfold once more.
Harvey and Mike have a relationship that’s so engrossing to watch; it’s this push and pull with each other. Harvey almost expects Mike to let him down, while Mike is waiting to fail. I think it’s because Harvey wants Mike to be just like him, but that’s just unrealistic and unattainable. At the same time, Harvey realizes that Mike has skills he doesn’t have. As much as Mike has difficulties with the actual law stuff, he’s shown his abilities can uniquely help the firm.
Both Harvey and Mike were put in “the gun to the head” situations, but when Harvey had “the gun to his head” he was able to get himself out of it unlike Mike. That disappointed Harvey. So many of the situations were engaging and/or funny, but in the end the best was Mike closing the door on Louis. The somewhat insecure Mike closed the deal; Harvey would have been so proud.
Two episodes in, it is clear one of Harvey’s skills is to have a solution to his problem presented through a different problem or even the mention of a word. In this case, he tried to use the judge’s desire for a “sterling” reputation against him, unfortuately that didn’t work. But, when Mike mentioned working for “free”, that triggered the solution for Wyatt’s patent problem. So far, the connections have made sense and haven’t been over the top, but if not handled carefully it could become a plot device that turns annoying.
I’m enjoying the interactions between all the characters, even Louis. He, as a character, is annoying, but he isn’t annoying to watch. That is a very narrow line for that type of character. The same almost could be said for Harvey. He is so smug, but you just kinda love him anyway. I’m looking forward to delving deeper into who these characters are and the relationships between them all. I especially am looking forward to seeing how integral the women of the firm are to its success.
There were so many good quotes and moments, I jotted down more than I normally do.
Suits Quotes and Notes:
I am really liking this show.
I haven’t seen the second episode yet, but I’m glad to know that it sustains what it did in the pilot!
