The Voice takes his hat off and bows

Javier Colon reaps the benefits of his consistent run on the initial season of 'The Voice'. And it's well deserved.

- Season 1, Episode 12 - "The Finale"

When it came down to brass tacks, who did you really think was going to be left standing as the winner of The Voice?

The votes were already in, the choice had already been made, so the episode was nothing but fluff and grandstanding leading up to the announcement.

My choice from yesterday pitted Javier Colon and Beverly McLellan against each other. I’ve been rooting for Beverly all along, but deep down in my heart of hearts I figured she probably didn’t stand a chance at grabbing the crown. And she didn’t. (P.S. Her duet with Ryan Tedder of OneRepublic was terrible, by the way. She was nowhere near her game. P.P.S. Vicci Martinez and her shared “Drops Of Jupiter” with Train’s Pat Monahan was neat.)

With all the talk out there on the social networks — in the comments, at the water coolers (what?) — you’d think Dia Frampton had a lock on this thing. And I have to admit: Her duet with Miranda Lambert on the finale was killer. (Theirs is what a duet is supposed to be.) Spot on, heartfelt, impression leaving.

Javier and iconic Stevie Nick’s turn at the mike wasn’t terrible, but it wasn’t the sort of love we got from Dia and Miranda. Stevie certainly likes to wave her hands around and gesture, doesn’t she? To the point it seemed as if she was leading Javier a goodly amount of the time they were singing together. What was up with that? Did he really need to be coaxed while their voices joined? Granted, he was octaves above her during most of “Landslide” and Stevie’s consummate professionalism blew him out of the water … but still. Her conductivity, to some, could have seemed a bit demeaning.

It didn’t make a difference in the end, however. His consistency throughout the show — from start to finish — earned him the top spot. Javier won outright to take the premiere season of The Voice.

I’m content with that.

Javier certainly was consistent. But he was good from the start so he wasn’t a “revelation,” whereas Dia emerged from the pack midway through the season and had some momentum going for her. Although he’s been the favorite from day 1, I’m surprised he eked out the win over Dia considering how well her songs were selling. Do you think the popularity of the coaches (Adam vs Blake) had anything to do with Javier winning? In any case, he’s a worthy Voice. I hope he makes the most of this opportunity.

“and Stevie’s consummate professionalism blew him out of the water”

I like Stevie Nicks as much as the next guy who didn’t grow up in that generation, but she was just plain weird in this performance, and sounded off, too.

I was surprised, though, that only 2% of the votes separated Javier and Dia.

(Still wish Kelsey Ray had made it a couple more weeks)

. . . . .

I still think she’s got the voice and can hold a candle to anyone, Ivey, but her mannerisms toward Javier were strange and seemed to lean toward the condescending side of the fence …

No doubt. She just sound odd in this performance to me.

My thoughts are that Dia was a player. She had everyone fooled with her conservative dress and sometimes shy awkward demeanor. She played it right . . .make everyone connect with the sad backward girl and then BAM! bring it out loud and clear so they are all rooting for the underdog. Javier deserved it he was real from the beginning no phonyness about him at all. Congratulations Javier

I wonder if American was influenced by Blake and Adam both endorsing Javier’s “goodness” as a person? I’m happy he won, he seems genuine, and he should do well.

Dia should not suffer from 2nd place, and I’m glad they were so clear the vote was close. It would have been a shame to pretend she got the same response as the other two.

I find it so… unsurprising… that the two safest, most boring contestants were the top two. And I’m still angry that Dia was on the show at all, because she’s already famous.

No more or less than Frenchie, who, independent of her run on Idol, had a moderately successful musical theatre career going there for a while.

Nothing said that these artists had to be undiscovered … Though, I think prior to The Voice, calling Dia famous might be a stretch.

. . . . .

A stretch as in “GumbyLand” …

Dia is famous? Honestly I thought Beverly SHOULD have been TheVoice. Unfortunately, I KNEW it was going to be Javier.

Hafta admit, I never really got into The Voice. Perhaps because in the beginning it came on at a time when seemingly only Vampires were out and about. But Stevie…always great.

Thank God it’s over
