America’s Got Talent – From a pancreas costume to drilling dancing!

Last week, the greatest talent search in the world mostly featured talentless performers. Would this week be different? Somewhat, yes. However, we did get to witness the extremely weird act of a performer dressed in a pancreas-like costume!

- Season 6, Episode 6 - "Atlanta Part 2"

America's Got Talent

Some of the acts not going through:

  • Robo Mike‘s dancing did not wow the crowd nor did his sound effects noise-making abilities which were a light year away from the talents of Mr. Michael Winslow.
  • Also in the noise-making category was Kevin Harlow Jasper, who claimed to be a singer. His talent would be best described as: really bad yodeling mixed with weird animal sounds.
  • Mr. Shake It Up! tried to impress the crowd with his dancing talent. His dancing was extremely awkward and awful. But his act did bring a fun moment: Piers admitting that he dances as badly as Mr. Shake It Up! does. At least, Piers knows better than to dance in front of a crowd!

The Worst of the Worst: Joseph Ravens performed the weirdest and most incomprehensible act we’ve seen on the show thus far. He dressed up in a pancreas-like costume that had a mouth (according to his website, it’s a liver and the act is called “Is My Liver Showing?”). His act, which we didn’t get an explanation for since he didn’t talk to the judges before or after the performance, consisted of him throwing pillows out of the mouth of his costume and onto the stage floor. Only one expression can summarize what most viewers probably thought while watching this performance: WTF?

Some of the acts going through:

  • The Summerwind Skippers jump rope team was quite impressive but pretty much similar to other jump rope acts we’ve seen in the past seasons.
  • The Fiddleheads, a bluegrass band, won us over with their own version of Cee Lo Green’s “Forget You.” Too bad we didn’t see the entire act!
  • The cute kid of the night was 6-year-old disk jockey DJ Face. For a kid, his skills were rather impressive and his smile got the crowd rooting for him. Isn’t this the first disk jockey we see on AGT since the series premiere?
  • Hershae Chocolatea’s performance was sassy and some of the dance moves were great but, overall, the performance didn’t wow me. Despite what I and Piers think — he always Xes drag queens as Hershea pointed out — Hershae’s stage presence and colorful performance (and costumes) were enough to get the crowd demanding Vegas and for Sharon and Howie to say yes to the next round.
  • Captain and Maybelle performed the most horrific act of the episode. He is a sword-swallower except that what he swallowed were not swords but a metal hanger and a T-shaped metal structure on which clothes were hanging. Piers Xed as soon as Captain swallowed the hanger and didn’t watch the rest of the performance. However, the duo was able to make the crowd laugh and gasp throughout the performance which was enough to make Piers actually say yes to Vegas! Mark your calendars AGT fans, Piers actually sent an act he Xed to Vegas! That’s a rare occurence.

The “I Can’t Believe this Act is Going to Vegas” act: The crowd was right to boo the judges after they sent Armand & Angelina to the next round. They are some of the worst singers we have seen so far this year. They call their style of music: “Posi World Popera.”  Howie seems to believe that the couple aimed at being funny. Sharon thinks that it was perfectly cheezy. Personally, from the pre-performance interview and the chat the couple had with the judges before they started singing, it feels like Armand and Angelina didn’t mean to be funny and were dead serious when saying that they were good singers. Icing on the cake was that Armand said that them singing together was an opportunity to “make love to millions” of viewers. Awkward! Their performance was a sort of Ozzy Osbourne playing flute meets a pitchy opera singer wannabe.

The Show Stealers: 11 year-old Anna Graceman offered us an impressive version of Alicia Key’s “If I Got You.” Anna has a great voice that can only get better with vocal training and with more experience. The judges used the words “amazing, promising, and having a gift” when commenting on Anna’s performance. She is definitely one to watch for.

The Best of the Best: Even though Howie didn’t enjoy the performance and actually voted no to Vegas, you’ve got to admit that Attack Dance Crew offered us an impressive performance of drill-dancing. I had never seen such dancing before. They were in synch, the choreography was fresh, and their moves were done with great precision. The crowd loved it and were not happy with Howie’s decision. Thankfully Piers and Sharon voted yes.
