Cougar Town – Larmy Strong

Laurie starts the Larmy, Jules is a wizard and Bobby has the wrong balls. It's a lot of winning and losing on this week's 'Cougar Town.'

- Season 2, Episode 16 - "You're Gonna Get It"

I’ve mentioned before that the folks behind Cougar Town are kind of obsessed with Twitter, and this was evidenced again with this week’s episode. @TheLarmy is Laurie Keller’s (Busy Philipps) Twitter account. She talked about it throughout the episode and now she’s on a 24-hour tweet-athon. Okay, obviously it’s not Laurie Keller (she’s not reeeeealll, you guys), but it’s someone who has her voice down. For example, here’s a recent tweet: “If I had to make out with another girl, it would probably be Jules. But only because I loove her lipstick, but she never lets me borrow it.” Sounds like Laurie to me.

Definitely go check her out, because when Bill Lawrence said she was tweeting for 24 hours, he wasn’t kidding. As of this writing, she’s up to 233 tweets and counting.

Speaking of Laurie, am I the only one who wanted her to be a weird trivia genius? Yes, her using her phone to cheat and destroy Ellie and Grayson was brilliant, but I kind of wanted her to have this hidden talent that had been heretofore undiscovered. In the end, we got everyone to admit they’re dumb, so it worked out. In fact, it seemed kind of freeing. Maybe we should all sit around with our friends, drink a big glass of wine, and admit that we don’t remember shit from high school history class.

I’m terrified of children (and yes, I have one of my own), so I could completely empathize with Jules freaking out at screwing up in front of them – especially because Richard Stans kind of makes sense, but “Because God is invisible!” makes more sense than anything else I’ve heard this week. Also, when they’re that age kids are supposed to think that adults are infallible. If they smell fear (or stupidity), they’ll pounce like the hungry little jam-handed piranhas they are. That’s just science.

Bobby Cobb, on the other hand, defies science on a regular basis. I hate seeing him bummed out, so I loved what they did with his golf snafu. When you think about it, “Wrong Balls” really is the kind of nickname that you need to just own (and print on t-shirts), so kudos to Bobby for embracing it. Plus, it’s already opening doors for him: do you think he would have gotten that local sub shop endorsement if he had just played a good game of golf? Probably, but he wouldn’t have gotten to urge the viewers to make sure they eat the right balls instead of the wrong balls, and that’s just priceless.
