Parks and Recreation – Everyone’s in love

Ron Swanson may be burning ex-wives in effigy, but everyone else is in love in this week's episode of 'Parks and Recreation.'

- Season 3, Episode 9 - "Fancy Party"

“Did you grow up in the woods? Are you Nell? From the movie, Nell ?” – Donna

Like Leslie Knope, when I think of “doing what makes me happy,” I also gaze at Adam Scott. This week’s episode of Parks and Rec was basically the cutest thing that has ever happened, ever. Leslie and Ben are my favorite non-couple on television. In fact, I like them better than a lot of actual TV couples. My love for them is unabashed, although I do feel as though I should be embarrassed for literally squealing when Ben was asking Leslie if he should stay in Pawnee.” I mean, honestly. I should get a hold of myself.

What surprised me is that April and Andy almost made me cry. What started out as a terrible idea that I was expecting a lot of comedy to come from (I was convinced Leslie was going to tackle someone), turned into a beautiful, touching ceremony that rivaled any “anticipated” TV wedding. Yes, there’s a big age difference and yes, it’s a terrible idea on paper, but those two crazy kids just might make it work.

Speaking of crazy kids, I love April’s creepy friend. The scene with Chris completely horrifying him was hilarious, as was the ending with Ben and Leslie backing away and running (“he can smell fear”). It’s nice when Jerry isn’t the creepiest person in the room.

Ann showed more of her patented awkwardness around guys, as she stumbled her way through a weird dating event. Luckily, Donna was there to help her. This was amazing for a few reasons: one, Donna is awesome and should have her own lifestyle talk show. Two, it kept Ann away from the wedding. She and Andy were such a weird non-couple, that I’m glad the writers didn’t try to make her reaction to his wedding a “thing.” Because it’s not. You hear about an ex like Andy getting married and you get bummed for a minute before realizing that you don’t really care. They played it perfectly.

This episode was so amazing that it’s made me worried: what if, as soon as Leslie and Ben start to progress, Dave comes back? I can definitely see Louis C.K. making a return appearance. He was good for Leslie, but I’d be horribly disappointed if after doing so well with Leslie and Ben, they throw a big, red-headed wrench into the proceedings. What do you guys think?

The wedding was very touching. I must agree with you completely that it did indeed rival the big event weddings that NBC is known for.

Parks and Rec is just incredible.
