I love following writers on Twitter. Sure, it’s interesting to get glimpses of their process and creativity, but mainly it’s just awesome that since they’re primarily on the West coast and I’m on the East coast, I get to wake up to their middle-of-the-night meltdowns. Happening almost nightly, these tweetdowns entertain and delight me to no end. However, I do believe that as a citizen, it’s also my duty to help, which is why I want to strongly encourage you all to watch Cougar Town when it returns from its hiatus next week.
The writers have tried to stay busy creating videos for Vulture, but they’re getting increasingly antsy. Add to this the fact that ABC isn’t showing any promos for their imminent return and what you get is a couple of writers on the edge.
Cougar Town co-creator and showrunner Bill Lawrence apparently can’t sleep, isn’t afraid to take his iPad into the bathtub, has no body hair, doesn’t know what to do with his hands and will talk to anyone and everyone in the middle of the night. Seriously, check out his actual Twitter page: he already tweets a lot, but in the middle of the night, it’s nothing but a stream of @ replies:
He’s also getting increasingly pissy with ABC and their lack of promotion for his show, so he’s apparently trying to get viewers on board one at a time, often apologizing for the show’s name and swearing that Cougar Town doesn’t suck. He’s even taken over the Scrubs Facebook page to plead his case and get some of the die-hard Scrubbies over to his new show.
Naturally, Lawrence is accomplishing this by recording himself doing a play with Scrubs bobbleheads, as many other completely sane successful millionaire showrunners have done before him.
Not one to be left at the station as the crazy train boards, Cougar Town co-creator Kevin Biegel has taken a break from his tweets about how great BBQ is to make his own stick-figure Cougar Town promo. Unfortunately he shot it upside-down.
My point is two-fold: 1) These men need help. 2) Cougar Town really is a great show that you should be watching.
Yes, it started out a little rough, and yes, Ellie and Andy’s baby seems to have gone up the stairs Family Matters-style, but it has quickly become one of my favorite comedies, mainly because it promotes the universal truth that drinking red wine (especially out of comically large glasses) is awesome.
Because ABC won’t, I’m going to tell you that Cougar Town returns on April 18 after DWTS and returns to its regular timeslot on Wednesday, April 20 at 9:30. As Bill Lawrence says, “Cougar Town is not a show about an older chick out banging younger dudes… anymore. It’s a show about adult friendship and wine drinking.”

I think if the show ever gets a proper ending the name of the town the show takes place in should be renamed Cougar Town. :)

They really need to have Danny Pudi as an extra. It may get some of the Community crossover, although the audience for Community isn’t much larger than Cougar Town’s. I love the show and have been telling everybody to give it a chance. Unfortunately, I don’t know a single “Nielsen family” so I don’t know if it will make a difference. Hang in there Bill!
It’s already getting a third season so ABC must like the show.

THIS SHOW SUCKS! IT’S FILLED WITH CAST MEMBERS WHO THINK THEY ARE FUNNIER THAN THEY ARE! BILL LAWRENCE MUST HAVE HIS HEAD UP HIS ASS. SCRUBS WAS AWFUL AS WELL.
