Something interesting is “cooking” on No Ordinary Family

For the most part things continue to motor along nicely as we have a slew of things tossed at us in ‘NOF’, including a close call for one of the characters and an “expectant” plot twist …

Well … this one thing I know for certain: No Ordinary Family tossed a proverbial wrench in the machine with this episode.

While the action and drama were there and while some plot points were answered, the writers decided to throw us a bit of a curve while opening the door for Joshua / Watcher (Josh Stewart) to come slithering back.

You see … Katie’s pregnant.

With Joshua’s child.

Not exactly ABC Family fare.

But that’s okay. It mucks things up while the series winds down. I mean … who wants spic ‘n’ span clean come the very end? Do you? I don’t.

When Lucas Winnick (Eric Balfour) was stalking Katie and hunting for Joshua, we witnessed a rather interesting feat: he inexplicably got tossed in the air and ended up planted on the roof of a nearby car. Immediately, I thought it might be Joshua back in the picture. But no. It’s not until a bit later on we find not only that Katie might have powers, but she’s with child. Wait: Is the child “packing” powers? Or somehow manipulating her in utero into having powers? Regardless, it’s all good for Katie … else she would have been torn to shreds by our murderous Mr. Winnick.

So … where is this story line taking us? I’ve little doubt it’s headed toward a little date with Joshua. That will prove interesting.

And speaking of interesting, we were rewarded some intriguing little tidbits to chew on ’til next episode:

  • Daphne’s playing games with her powers she knows better than to play. It’s the teenage hormones working in her, causing her to flippantly toss her abilities around with ease, not only to impress her boyfriend, but because she feels deserved of doing so. Not good. Keep going down that path and the shitake’s gonna fly, eventually.
  • Dr. King is called out yet again … this time by a pissed off and anxious Jim who is under severe duress while Stephanie lies battered and broken. King’s feelings for Stephanie mixed with the pleas of Jim overwhelm his sensibilities in allowing our hero to inject his wife with a booster shot of trilsettum serum. (Uncertain of just exactly how Stephanie will react to it in her damaged state, by the by.)
  • Oh, come on! The scribes at NOF really expect us to believe JJ can not only determine the cause of Stephanie’s ails (an infection) and what they’re doing to her, but formulate the counters to it as well? Give me a break. The kid’s Einsteiny, sure … but he can’t pull this stuff out of his ass without knowing something about biology and bodily interaction. I rejected that bit of story completely.
  • We’re still wondering what Mrs. X’s (Lucy Lawless) true intentions are. She’s got a thing going on about Dr. King we just don’t quite yet know about. The answers are coming … they’re coming …
  • We know trilsettum is volatile stuff, but we also know – as do all the scientific players in the game – that there are unknown elements to it. Case in point: Stephanie’s possible (?) dash into the future at the end of the program. The result of the dose of green juice she received to help succor her? Not certain I’m digging this piece of information, so I’ll reserve thought on it until we see where it takes us

The action within this hour was not only spiffy, but the story clipped along at a nice little pace. We’re heading into the home stretch quite admirably from my perspective. But there’re plenty more “plotholes” to find out about and ends to wrap up. I’m looking forward to them.

Who’s with me?

JJ’s abilities have always seemed ridiculous to me from the time he threw the football perfectly to become the quarterback for the team. Being able to figure out where and how the ball should go is not the same as having the muscular co-ordination to be able to put it there, as I’ve found out from losing too many pool games.

I also spent too much time wondering what supermaterial Stephanie’s clothes were made of that they didn’t burn off during her run.

This episode seemed a bit too violent for me, as if they’re trying to increase the demo ratings to keep the show on air. Is Winnick dead now? However, I did love Katie’s fetus having super powers. As someone who was hypoglycemic during my pregnancy and only during my pregnancy (after which I had to deal with a hypoglycemic infant), I know how she feels.
