As much as I love The Chicago Code, it would be unfair to say it is a perfect show. Tonight, I think, exposed one of its weaknesses. Taking a deeper look into Jarek’s personal life, however, was very appropriate. If we’re finally getting past the age of anti-heroes on TV, it is high time for broken heroes to replace them. So far, Jarek Wysocki has proven to be as complex of a character as Alderman Gibbons is an evil one.
Is it just me, or is Billy Lush the weak link of the cast? I’m not saying he is bad, but compared to the stellar cast that surrounds him? … His voiceover near the beginning of the episode was a bit rough. It doesn’t help that his character is plain damn stupid. If Gibbons didn’t leave the day planner in the back seat as a test, then he’s not as smart as I give him credit for. Liam should have been smart enough to let whatever information possibly gleaned from the day planner go in an effort to get further inside.
If you needed any more proof that Gibbons is evil incarnate, I think there was more than enough in this episode. Dragging Liam to the house of the man he (might have) killed in the fire was a miserable thing to do.
Jarek’s personal life is about as jacked up as it can be. It is easy to see the chemistry he has with his ex-wife, and I’d actually be a fan of them getting back together. I think it is funny how they’ve kept Elena off screen for so long. They even teased it again tonight with Elena’s Camille Gauty, starting her dialogue off screen. I wonder where Jarek’s love life will take him next; he sure looked all kinds of torn as the episode ended.
I’m sure I don’t need to say it, but Adam Arkin is freaking amazing. And since I’m steadfastly against the idea of any romantic entanglements between Teresa and Jarek, I like the idea that there might a foil — romantic or otherwise — for our favorite Superintendent. When asked about Arkin being back, the director of tonight’s episode Billy Gierhart responded on Twitter: “wait + see.”
Sometimes I wish that In Plain Sight would link into other television shows who have characters — recurring or otherwise — that enter the Witness Protection Program. I think it could be a collection of cool crossovers.
Notes & Quotes
I actually really like Liam. I don’t think he gets enough attention to really show what he’s going through. Everytime we see him we see his cover. I am very interested to see who he really is. They have the opportunity with him to explore really cool things. I also thought that this episode gave him a bit of an arc too instead of just being a plot device to “get” the alderman. I feel like soon enough we will start seeing a real character turn for him as he really puts everything behind his “mission.” It won’t hurt that he’s now “in” with Gibbons.
I didn’t realize we didn’t get to see the nurse until you pointed it out. And now I too cry foul!
