I’m confused. Despite some brief moments of enjoyment here and there, I’ve primarily found Greek’s final season to be a bust. And not just because it’s been bad, but also because the final trajectories that each of the characters are traversing make no sense. What’s going on?
Evan has made giant strides since the show premiered. From being the rich Omega Chi president dating a ZBZ darling, he’s traveled far to find meaning in his relationship with Rebecca, and he’s shed the ties that bound him to his parents. That’s a lot of growth. So what’s he doing for his final song? First he pushed Rebecca away (I’m sure before the show ends he’ll tell her how he felt scared and alone facing a daunting world without his parents and their connections), and now he’s battling with Casey like a three year-old, telling her that even their assignments were going to get personal.
Evan’s “what if” speech to Casey during their mock trial was pathetic, and not just because Casey thought Evan was trying to trick her again when he was actually being “sincere.” His wondering what if they’d never broken up forgot to consider the fact that he cheated on her, which effectively doomed their relationship. He was pondering things as if outside forces had affected their love, when it was really his inability to be trustworthy.
Meanwhile, Casey not only lacks the “shark” mentality but she also sucks as a debater, a pretty key skill for a litigator. I suppose she could go the non-trial law route, but even that doesn’t fit her. Her complaining about having to defend Evil Corp, how could she do that, she had to lie the entire time … grow up! It’s an assignment. And a mock trial competition with a research assistant prize at the end? Seriously, Legally Blond should sue.
The writers are clearly driving Ashleigh and Rusty toward one another, but did Ashleigh have to pick up a creepy sugar daddy along the way? It was funny that we were supposed to think her plan to be taken care of was a departure for her — her sudden interest in a career last season was the thing that was out of character — but the sugar daddy part was creepier than the fact that it was Casey’s professor who Ashleigh was dating. By the way, just the one class in law school?
I knew Daley was being set up, although I’ll admit that I didn’t see the big picture. But honestly, Omega Chi getting back at Rusty and the KTs by hazing Dale is pathetic payback. I love Dale, and so do Rusty and Cappie, but what exactly do the KTs care about him? Trip’s sad.
But Rusty and Calvin getting up there on the stage with Daley was awesome (as was Laura bearing her teeth at Natalie). It’s been a long time since we’ve seen their camaraderie. I sincerely hope that Calvin will finally see the light and leave Omega Chi. What more proof does he need that he’s in the wrong house?
I don’t empathize with Cappie’s fear of the real world. It’s something I’ve never understood on TV or in life — that’s life, and it’s something we all prepare for, to one extent or another, for twenty-two years. At the same time I don’t think anyone has the right to force someone to do what they’re not ready for; I don’t get how Cappie still so much as looks at Casey.
But I loved his CIA plot last night. It was one of the few shining moments of the episode … until they totally screwed it up and didn’t go anywhere with it. Did you tell someone about meeting with us? Yes? Sorry, you can go now. What a letdown.
So I don’t know where any of these people are going, or what’s going on in general. But I am rather curious about who’s been messing with the KTs. How is Joshua Whopper failing everything? It’s a head-scratcher. It has to be someone with a serious beef, like Bing, although I don’t know that Evan has the time or the wherewithal to pull off some of those things. Could it be Pledge Spidey? I’m not quite sure why he’d be trying to bring KT down, but who knows what his father’s been telling him for eighteen years? Maybe he’s an enemy agent … which could tie in well with Cappie’s interest in the CIA.
That would be a random place for the show to close on, but it sounds better than whatever else they have cooking, right?
I’ve given up hope that they will successfully conclude all the storylines by the time the show or season finishes but I thought the writers would at least have given it a go.
Enjoyed the episode as always but I am worried that the show will end with no conclusion to it and that we will just be left with what we have.
Not sure who is sabotaging the KT’s, Pledge Spidey is a good bet for it, maybe Evan but I don’t think he has the time or the inclination, possibly Dana after the break up with Rusty but that’s about all I can think of really.
It’s clearly Dale the one going after the KTs, he has been going after them all season.

Watch last night’s episode. That’s where the question comes from.

I just hope it doesn’t end up being some random person from the pilot that we never could have remembered who’s been bearing a grudge against someone in the KT house for all these years … wait a second; could it be Andy??? That would be awesome (assuming Jesse McCartney bothers to come back for it)!
Does Andy hate them enough to go this kind of trouble though? like you say I don’t want it to be a random guest star of no real importance.

I think it depends on how much Jordan meant to him….
I have yet to watch last night’s episode but I completely agree. I was just thinking that they will pull a Lost and just go “And everyone was fine, until they died” after the series finale airs.
The writers had over a year to make the last 10 episodes, they were told that these are the last ten episodes and the writers just seemed to ignore that. The jump ahead made sense to the new school year but now they just seemed to have made random episodes with no clue timeline. It snows with leaves on the trees when the week before might have been September 15th at the latest, just doesn’t make sense.
Last night, I got a bit irritated with the whole “Omegas aren’t taking Zetas to some special dance thing,” because obviously the only way to be top sorority is if the top frat likes you! That Rebecca, and by extension the house, lets a frat define their status.
I get that it’s supposed to be a Greek thing, but it really bugs me. Correct me if I’m wrong, but weren’t there a few other really good frats in the early seasons? Wouldn’t it be nice if the Zetas, once in the show, had elevated a frat by their patronage, instead of choosing between the assholes and the slackers?
I know it’s too late for it now, but still…
Jen,they actually do pick another fraternity throughout the seasons. When ashleigh is first elected president, the choose to pref with the Lamda Sigs instead of the Omega Chis
A few things:
1) I want to crush Trip. Hate him!
2) I loved Laura calling Natalie a bitch.
3) Dale’s better looking in his undies than I expected. Rusty, too. (I knew Calvin would look good.)
4) Did anybody notice that sleazy Law professor showed up in last week’s Grey’s as Altman’s date? Even Scott Foley could tell he was a tool. :)

Re #4 – thank you! I knew he looked familiar on Grey’s, but I couldn’t place him.
