Being Human – Josh goes on an … eating date

After last week's strong episode, I'm glad to say things are finally starting to pick up speed. And the boys make out ... with girls, not with each other.

- Season 1, Episode 6 - "It Takes Two to Make a Thing Go Wrong"

Josh’s sister Emily coming back was probably one of the best parts of the episode. I can’t help but enjoy how nervous Josh and Aidan became as they tried to make their house and themselves look normal. When she asked why there were five rump roasts in the freezer, I nearly lost it. Apparently she told their parents “everything,” but I guess we’re going to have to wait until next week to see just what is defined as “everything.” It’s good to see a character who is actually appealing. Even Sally connected with her, even if Emily didn’t conscientiously realize it. Considering Bishop’s man attacked her in retaliation for Josh’s attack two episodes ago, I wonder how long she’ll be in the series. I’m honestly hoping she becomes a regular cast member because she’s so interesting. Plus, Josh needs more people who care about him around him.

Speaking of Josh, isn’t it nice to see him happy? And blond nurse (I think her name is Nora) is actually growing on me. The scene with Josh and Aidan discussing what she meant by “I do need to eat” was fun. While Josh’s Woody Allen-like anxiety can go over-the-top at times, his awkward flirting felt just right this week — so props to Sam Huntington for being so adorable. Plus, I’m happy that I’m not the only person who uses the term “ass hat.”

It was also very cute of him to invite her over for a home-made dinner, but maybe it wasn’t such a good idea to bring her to his haunted house where his nosy sister and a vampire live. Still, even after meeting his drunk sister and finding out he left his fiancee and MIT behind for mysterious reasons, she still made out with him. I think we can all agree it was the steamiest scene in the show so far that didn’t involve fresh blood used as a lubricant. I actually found it sweet that he was worried he would be too rough for her. I have to wonder if he will explain more to Nora as their relationship goes on. Oh well, at least his roommates seem to approve of her.

I really liked how much Aidan and Sally interacted this week. I almost wish Sally’s daydream was real, if only for Sam Witwer‘s line “You think you can get away with killing our girl?” Sure, it would have been wrong of him to eat Danny, but that line was so great and delivered so well! We do see Sally mature in this episode. For one, she meets Lindsay the poltergeist and discovers what happens to ghosts who choose to hold onto that resentment. For another, she realizes that her scaring Danny with her engagement ring has bad consequences for Bridget.

So, Rebecca is back. I still don’t like Rebecca, and I like her even less now that I have absolutely no idea what her motives are. I’m actually questioning if she was still working for Bishop when she asked for his help a couple episodes ago. I think the only time I actually liked her in the episode is when Aidan tells her he wishes he would have walked away the night he turned her … she admits that she wasn’t really living life to the fullest when she dies. It would be really easy to keep blaming him, but that admission was actually mature. Rebecca is still one of my least favorite characters in the show, but that moment was at least a step in the right direction.

For the last few weeks, I’ve been begging for more roommate/storyline interaction and I feel like Being Human is finally getting there. They all felt like friends or at least much more comfortable with each other. Josh briefly and vaguely mentions how he met Aidan, but I can’t wait to hear the rest of that story. Oh, and the preview for next week included Josh visiting his family, which is going to be awesome (and not just for Aidan gagging on Josh’s mom’s heavy use of garlic).

Man, i love your posts! It’s so good to know someone else hates Rebecca’s pointless character as much as i do. I don’t see why Aidan goes for all the sad-sack gross girls, he could do waaayyyy better. I get the addiction thing, but surely there’s a hotter vampire girl out there somewhere…
Oh yeah, and “hell yes!” to Josh/Nora scene being the steamiest. The man has moves. Glad you picked up on it.
