Before I ever get started about tonight’s episode, let me point you in the direction of something you must read. An has written a brilliant comparison of How I Met Your Mother and … Archie comics? You won’t believe how accurate the connection is until you read about it yourself.
I’m glad that How I Met Your Mother is continuing to keep Marshall’s storyline front and center as this season progresses. First, because getting over your father doesn’t take two episodes, and you’re done. Mainly, though, because through the exploration of a sad and dramatic subject, HIMYM has found a completely new way to be absolutely hilarious. “We’re men … Leave the crusts off?” Comedic gold, baby!
It makes sense that Ted would completely overthink the beginning of his relationship with Zoey. He’s overthought the pre-relationship time with Zoey, his whole relationship with Robin, and Stella, and Victoria … Heck, he probably overthinks his boxers choice each morning.
Unfortunately, though, no movement on the only Zoey related question that anyone actually has: Is she the titular mother? If you read other websites out there, you’ll see that many writers are convinced that there’s no way that Zoey could be the mother. I am obviously not so sure. Otherwise, we’re all just wasting our time this season, Charlie Brown style. So, I’m still on the “Zoey is the Mother” train … for now.
The other train I have been solidly on is the Robin and Barney one (which, according to Julia, everyone on the planet is. I’ve never seen much in the comments either way. What do you guys think?). Many hated the episodes when they were together before, but not me. Plus, the Barnacle is in the middle of his biggest “growth spurt” ever. He finally, definitively, wants to meet his father. If finally meeting his dad helps him overcome the daddy issues that he exploits in all of his conquests, then maybe he’ll finally be ready to settle down. And Scherbatsky is his his soulmate, regardless of British Lazer Tag partners.
Oh, and Lily and Marshall had a storyline. Now that we’re finally coming to an end the story of Marshall’s dad, we’re back to Lily just kind of floundering around. At least this week the floundering was with a body pillow. And the body pillow Suiting Up? Too funny! For once and for all, just get this lady pregnant; the writing will be sooo much easier for you then!
Notes & Quotes
This is the last time I watch HIMYM. I can´t stand Zoe anymore. Enough is enough and I can´t see one of my favorite shows going downhill like this. Once a brilliant sitcom turned into a crappy show :(

I don’t understand the Zoey hatred. She’s been written MUCH more likable ever since Natural History.
Plus, to say that this show has turned crappy, on the heels of this whole Marshall’s Dad storyline … Really?
I guess we’re just not watching the same show.
I’m not a fan of Zoe and I can’t believe she is the mother. I can’t picture Ted tell his kids about how he met Zoe and telling them her name during the story. I mean, it’s not like Zoe is such an ordinary name that there are a lot of them and the kids would think, “Oh, Dad dated someone with the same name as Mom,”. I hope Zoe has a purpose, because right now, I really don’t like her at all.

Or it could be like Definitely Maybe, where they changed the names :)
I don’t mind Zoey but I hope she’s not the mother. I don’t think she fits into the image they gave us of the mother (where’s the paintings, singing, band!), Zoey seems much more serious and obsessed on her cause downright to being a well, b word, than the description we have gotten of the mother over the years.
HIMYM is about the trip, not the destination, so I don’t see why they wouldn’t just hand us another Rovictella to keep the wheel turning.
Also, I think Robin and Barney are the perfect pair! I loved them in the museum episode and hope they keep having that synergy together.
Very good, D.W., very good . . .
P.S. I actually like the Z-ster. I’m overjoyed to see the actress on a show that doesn’t try to actively ruin her character :)
