Something weird happened when I was watching this week’s episode of Cougar Town: I started identifying with Jules. Usually she’s riding the cuckoo bus to Crazy Town, and while I wouldn’t call her 100% rational during this episode, I completely understood where she was coming from.
Let’s look at her two main issues: Grayson bought “day before Valentine’s Day” flowers for both her and her son’s girlfriend. It’s a sweet gesture, but the fact that he bought them the same expensive flower arrangements makes him kind of a creeper. Advantage, Jules.
The second issue is that her boyfriend with whom she is in a serious relationship, won’t open up emotionally to her. Having been in that situation myself, I’m completely on board with how hurtful and frustrating that can be. It makes you feel like you’re on an uneven playing field. Advantage, Jules.
However, making Grayson watch his parents anniversary video and then eating popcorn while creepily staring at him as he watched Field of Dreams? Not cool. Advantage, sanity.
Speaking of creepers, Kirsten has always weirded me out a little bit, but never so much as during this episode. Even if she didn’t want a cheesecake boudoir photo, saying she wants a “sexy” photo of Travis is really weird. What was she expecting? Apparently something in a blazer, which makes absolutely no sense. I was thinking she meant a naked picture, which again, who wants that? The whole thing was bizarre, but I did love the last scene with them as she sees the photo and is properly horrified.
Luckily, we had some good penny can action this week to return things to normal. Plus, we had a bonus Grayson song! I love Grayson songs, and all this does is make me sad that we’re not going to see another episode of Cougar Town for about two months, while Mr. Sunshine steals their spot.
I’m going to miss the gang, but I’ll be sure to drink a lot, which will be totally cool, because it’s in their honor. That’s what I’m going to tell everyone, at least. Actually, I’m not going to so much tell them as drunkenly slur, “Ish Cougar Town, Bishes!” I’m sure they’ll get it.
Here are a couple of my favorite quotes from this week:
“Tomorrow is St. Valentine’s Day. What saint decided that women have to put out just because some idiot bought them an $8 teddy bear?” – Ellie
Kirsten: “You know what I’d really like, Trav? A sexy picture.”
Travis: “What, like Ryan Reynolds riding a horse or something?
maybe someone can help me: what’s the name of the song that plays on the ending scenes of this episode?
thank you.
