V – Red rain, red rain, go away …. and don’t come back another day!

The first season of V had quite a few references to Erica and Anna as mothers, but that was taken to a whole new level in tonight’s premiere, “Red Rain.” It began with Erica’s dream of Anna hurting Tyler in revenge for the killing of her spawn soldiers and then with them appeasing each other with kind words about each others’ children.

“Every being in the universe understands a mother’s pain when a child suffers. You would do the same for my children.” – Anna
“I would.” – Erica

Hahahaha. Unless I kill them, because they are evil reptile soldiers.

And then Anna said this to Erica, “No apology necessary, Erica. You’ve been a good friend to me…. Don’t worry, Erica. Next to my daughter, Tyler is the most important thing to me. I’ll keep my eye on him.”

Scenes like these are part of the reason I love V — the way they are able to lie so convincingly to each other. It really is hard to tell how much Anna really knows about Erica’s true motives. I have a difficult time believing Anna doesn’t know Erica is Fifth Column or at least that she questions the Vs’ true purpose on Earth. But, Anna’s constant sly looks toward Erica may just be that she truly believes she is fooling Erica.

The mother theme continued with the appearance of Anna’s mother, played by Jane Badler who also played Diana, the Commander of the Los Angeles ship, from the original V series.

I found the mommy stuff that permeated throughout the episode interesting, but not nearly as much as the other shockers that happened in the premiere.

• Anna’s continual emotional outbreaks. The one little tear in the corner of her eye when she was with her sick soldiers to her killing them and walking away with tears and despair in her face.
• Vs have been on Earth for over 50 years and their skeleton is scary.
• The true purpose of Red Sky and Red Rain … to introduce a special phosphorus into Earth’s environment for breeding with humans.
• Then, Erica’s realization that the Vs may have manipulated her pregnancy with Tyler. Whoa! (Reminder, we know that Tyler’s “dad” is not really his “father.” Hmmm … mind wandering on this one. Is this why Anna insists on Lisa and Tyler getting together?
• Joshua is alive. But, seems to remember nothing.

This was a packed full episode and non-stop fun. I can’t wait to see what happens next.

Other Notes:

• How soon until Ryan has to choose between the Fifth Column and his daughter?
• What was up with Anna’s tail? Brutal treatment towards one of her captains. And, it seems the Vs’ hearts (if they have them) are on their right side.
• Anna called emotions as being “infected by human skin.”
• The live aboard program experiments have to mean something, but what is their purpose? I’m glad they decided to keep the videos secret and have Chad stay close to Anna.
• Anna’s pimping out of Lisa is creepy, but even more creepy … Anna watching Lisa and Tyler together. Why Anna insists on Lisa and Tyler mating is something I hope we find out soon.
• “Tyler is essential to our future.” – Anna to Lisa
