With the holidays in the rearview, things are slowly picking up with the DVD releases. This week brings a few new treats, in the form of iCarly, Big Love, Make It Or Break It, Sarah Jane Adventures, Bizarre Foods, and Ricky Gervais. And, of course, Universal continues to prove that anything worth releasing once is worth releasing two, or three, times as they drop the latest BSG set. For pick of the week, I considered iCarly. But really, just set a season pass on Nick and you’ll see every episode from every season within a couple months. So, we’re going with the harder to find Dirty Tricks. This is the first I’ve heard of it, but it sounds fantastic.
Wait… are you saying you DON’T have the iCarly set on preorder?

I’m sure it’s a good set, but check your schedule. They run iCarly so often that there is just no point in having the DVDs. Side note… while your searching for those iCarly episodes you missed, check out the new show House Of Anubis. Fun stuff.
House of Anubis? Really? I enjoyed the most-likely-cancelled Tower Prep immensely, and checked out the trailers because I was amused that the school uniforms were practically identical, but cringed at nearly every line reading from the HoA actors. Is that not a problem on the show itself, or is it because I’m not a pre-teen?

If you cringed at the acting in the previews, you’ll most likely do the same watching the show. It’s not high drama, and there is one character in particular that I would like to erase from existence. On the bright side, the bigger picture story does show hints of being rather interesting. It reminds me of Strange Days At Blake Holsey High, if that means anything to you. Also, nice call on Tower Prep. Another fun show.
Paul Dini definitely did not disappoint with Tower Prep. I’m just sad that so few people ever discovered the show. It took elements that would have been horribly cheesy in less deft hands, such as the boarding school/The Prisoner atmosphere and the Gnomes’ cheap costumes, head lamps, and chittering, and made them genuinely disturbing. The fight choreography was also well above average.
I discovered the House of Anubis pilot in HD on my iTunes, so will give it another try. Thanks for the recommendation.
