Catching up on V’s first season

Have you forgotten how 'V' ended? Read a summary of how the finale ended for each character. Plus, get a sneak peek at the premiere on Tuesday!

Between television seasons, I often forget quite a bit about the finale and previous season. When it came to V, I decided to watch the last two episodes of season one to refresh my memory. One thing I didn’t forget was the heart-wrenching scream shown in the picture above from Anna when her soldiers were killed. Props to Morena Baccarin for her convincing depiction of Anna’s first human emotion.

Here is a refresher of where the show ended with the main characters:

Anna (Morena Baccarin): Queen of the Vistors

  • Had her daughter, Lisa, beat up to gain sympathy of the humans and get Tyler back on the ship
  • Kidnapped Valerie in order to get her baby and then killed her
  • Manipulated Chad into giving positive press about the Vs, even gave him an aneurysm so they could heal him
  • Spawned an army of soldiers to attack the humans
  • Had her first human emotion of agony and anger when she found her soldiers killed
  • Reacted with “vengeance” and launched Red Sky against the humans

Erica (Elizabeth Mitchell): Head of the Fifth Column Task Force at the FBI and Leader of the Fifth Column

  • Tried to protect her son, Tyler, from the Vs, but ultimately decided to support him dating Lisa
  • Destroyed Anna’s soldier army during a dinner with Anna, Tyler and Lisa with a bomb given to her by Lisa
  • After destroying the soldier army, Erica is begged by Joshua to shoot and kill him, which she does

Chad (Scott Wolf): Reporter

  • Manipulated by Anna to support the Vs
  • Given a note for Joshua by Father Jack and gave it to Anna instead causing Joshua to be outed as Fifth Column
  • Talked with Joshua and found out that Anna gave him the aneurysm rather than healed him
  • Went to the secret room guided to by Joshua and saw the horrors that Anna is doing to the humans in the live aboard program
  • Showed up at the church in the finale to see Father Jack presumably to join the Fifth Column

Father Jack (Joel Gretsch): Catholic Priest

  • Gave Chad a note for Joshua that lead to Joshua’s outing as Fifth Column
  • Defied the head Priest at his church and gave a sermon against the Vs
  • “Let V no longer stand for Visitor, Let V stand for Victoryā€¯

Ryan (Morris Chestnut): Visitor who infiltrated Earth before the ships arrived — Member of Fifth Column

  • His child was born and Valerie was killed by Anna
  • Upset over what Anna had done by kidnapping Valerie and suspected she was killed rather than died
  • Gave in to Anna’s bliss

Kyle (Charles Mesure): Mercenary

  • Made a deal with Marcus (Anna’s second in command) for Parker’s research into an anti-reptile illness
  • Found out from Marcus that he had been working for the Vs for years without knowing it
  • Blackmailed by Marcus over a female they found, but she is not revealed to the viewers
  • Loyalties at this point are questionable

Lisa (Laura Vandervoort): Anna’s daughter

  • In a relationship with Tyler at her mother’s insistence, though we don’t know exactly why Tyler is the chosen one
  • Began to feel human emotions and truly loves Tyler
  • Returned Joshua’s favor (passed her on the empathy test though she failed) by giving Erica the bomb to destroy her mother’s soldier army
  • Decided to work against her mother and help the Fifth Column
  • Favorite look: her smirk when her mother was in agony over the loss of her soldier army

Tyler (Logan Huffman): Erica’s son

  • In a relationship with Lisa
  • Thinks the Vs are on Earth to help the humans and has no inklings that there is anything wrong

Other:

  • Joshua was shot by Erica but at the end of the finale we see that the Vs revived him and he is alive
  • Password used by Joshua to free himself: John May Lives (will we see John May again?)
  • A few of the soldiers were not killed, only damaged
  • Finale ended with all the main characters seeing Red Sky

The two sides have been established and I expect that we will now see the battle in season two. Interestingly, when watching the pilot and last two episodes again, I saw more clearly the battle between the mothers. The contrast between Anna and Erica became so clear. I expect that theme will continue into season two, as well.

So where does this leave us for the premiere this week? With lots of possibilities. I have watched the premiere a couple times and there are some twists and turns that will shock you … in a very good way.

Yes, thank you. I re-watched the pilot, but doubt I will get to the other two re-aired episodes, so this recap is appreciated.

Wasn’t there a shot of MANY, MANY “Visitor” crafts waiting or assumed to be approaching Earth? That caught my attention more than the red sky, and I was looking forward to seeing where that would go (story-wise).

As I remember it, this was at the end of the first four episodes, and it was never really brought up again. I imagine they are still on there way. Do you remember better, Carla?

At then end of the finale, they show the V ships that are in various cities around the world and the Red Sky. The scene you are referring to was in Ep 4 “It’s Just the Beginning”.

I’m glad you both found the refresher helpful. I enjoyed rewatching the last two eps and am looking forward to hearing your thoughts on the premiere this week.
