Veronica Mars Week – But I haven’t thought of you lately at all

The back half of the theme song lyrics that we used to start the week actually has the right sentiment that we’ve tried to portray this week … if you live in bizarro-world. This week, I think we’ve proved that the Clique here, and our readership, misses Veronica Mars a great deal. When we discussed which past show to dedicate this week to, it didn’t take long for Rob Thomas’ opus to take over the discussion. We’ve spent much of this week talking about why we all loved Veronica and her quirky life, but the best way to summarize it? Veronica Mars rocked!

I may have started off the week talking about the pilot, but Kona really nailed exactly why that particular hour of television was so different from anything we’d seen before, and have seen since. It created several mysteries that were so complex, Deb reminded us that one of them wasn’t completely resolved until the end of the second season. The first season may have very well been one of the best on television ever, but many complain that the second, and especially third, season could never match up to the promise of the original (Though there are a few of us that don’t hate season three like everyone else).

When we examined what exactly made Veronica Mars such a wonderful show, pretty much everyone on the team had a different answer. To me, the well-crafted dialog written by Rob Thomas’ team was a major factor, as seen by some of the incredible one-liners and conversations over the years. To Carissa, it was the connection she made with the titular character. Bob loved the way that first season’s long story arc was crafted, with layers of depth and red herrings that, in some ways, begat their own mysteries.

When I look back at Veronica Mars Week, my favorite series of posts were Carla’s Quizzes (Season One, Season Two, and Season Three). I don’t think she had originally intended to do this, but she has wound up watching the entire series in the past week or two as a way of putting the questions together. IMing with her as she re-watched the show since the first time it aired was a great experience, as it was a way for me to see the twists and turns through new eyes.

As much as the buzz might indicate the possibility of a Veronica Mars movie still exists, I’ve learned that lightning rarely strikes twice (Serenity), and I am not keeping my hopes up, despite Deb and Bob’s positive thoughts. Though, commenter Tina’s plot idea of Duncan’s murder bringing the team back together is very interesting, if for no other reason than the idea is predicated on Duncan’s death!

Regardless, I hope that we’ve proven that, at least on our small corner of the internet, Veronica Mars was a beloved show that is dearly missed. So I say thank you to Rob Thomas, Kristen Bell, Enrico Colantoni, Jason Dohring, Percy Daggs III, Tina Majorino, Harry Hamlin, Ryan Hansen, Michael Muhney, Tessa Thompson, Kyle Gallner, Julie Gonzolo, Ken Marino, Chris Lowell, Francis Capra, Alona Tal, Amanda Seyfried, and … if I must, even you, Teddy Dunn. Veronica Mars was a brilliant, once in a lifetime show.
