It’s so embarrassing that I hate musicals and love every blasted minute of the routines on Hellcats. I just smile the entire time. They are so full of fun and excitement. Even when the character’s worlds are falling apart, they can break into a choreographed dance number and all is right with the world. Wouldn’t it be great if when you’re having a craptastic day at school or work, you could gather all your friends and enemies and dance away the pain?
Unfortunately, no amount of dancing was able to alleviate what has been boiling between Marti, Dan and Savannah these past weeks. You knew it was only a matter of time before it hit the fan, but the time between the incident and the truth coming out didn’t make watching it any easier.
Every story currently airing is full of secrets, lies, truths and their consequences. Everyone is so torn. In love, friendship, team loyalty and trying to survive college curriculum, there is peril at every turn. This episode opened a lot of questions, but answered few. It really set us up for sectionals. If the show weren’t about cheerleaders, I would question whether the squad can pull off the upcoming competition. I think not coming out on top at sectionals will be an unlikely outcome considering how the Lancer athletic director, Bill Marsh, is aiming to kick them out of the program all together; but they’re doing a great job lining up the possibility.
Hellcats doesn’t always play the safe card, and they are a lot of open plays on the table. Dan quit his job. Did he leave town? His family is of the utmost importance, so that would be a shock. Could the show try to depict a squad sectionals loss, maybe leaving them suspended for a semester, to make things really interesting at Lancer University? Might the role cheerleading plays in their lives show more impact if it were taken away?
Outside the juicy casting tidbit that Aly Michalka‘s sister, AJ Michalka will be appearing in some episodes this spring, I’ve been relatively spoiler free on the whole show. This is new territory for me. I am usually so concerned about what will happen I can’t wait. But Hellcats does such a great job of making me feel for each and every character, I don’t want to know what’s going to happen before they do. As a spoilerholic, that says a lot.
I actually liked parts of the episode this week. I loved the intensity Dan showed Marti. But, honestly, his trying to convince Marti that he won’t leave again, but doing just that after his declaration isn’t in his favor.
Although I still feel Tisdale could improve as an actress, I’m glad they featured an almost date-rape scenario. In all honesty, Marti probably would not have arrived on time, but I don’t think we could deal with another ‘Private Practice’ like episode. A lot of things seem so overblown like ‘oh no! Savannah cheered for another team!’ where in reality I’d like to think 18/19-year-old adults would’ve just said ‘what happened?’ But, hey, it’s all a part of the CW-universe and drama is their game –
On a side note, Lewis is the hot, sexy guy you date in college and part with before graduation. Dan is the neighborhood guy you re-connect with during your senior year and eventually marry. However, I love that because it’s the CW they’ve sped up the evolution of the relationships into three months as opposed to three years :)

It really reminded me of the scene from Thelma and Louise, had the movie had a happy ending. Now that I think about it, there are a lot of parallels between the characters in other ways, as well. I spent the weekend watching a couple Aly Michalka movies, and that girl is good. I think she’s going to have a bright future ahead.
