I’m not sure how I feel one way or the other about what happened in the first few minutes of last night’s The Apprentice. Sure I was surprised that Anand got fired before the task even began, but I wasn’t all that taken aback by what he did. Granted we didn’t know specifically that it had occurred, but I wouldn’t have put it past any of these contestants to illicitly text friends for help. Sucks for him that no one showed up, though. See you later, Anand!
Anyway, I think the real competitors left in this game are Brandy, Steuart, and Clint — Liza being shifted over to the other team just made it easier for those three to clear house before going after one another.
This week’s task was marketing Kim Kardashian’s perfume line. It’s funny that her brand followed last week’s task featuring Trump’s brand … I’ll let you ponder why. But it was kind of a dumb task without a sales aspect to it. Why not see what kind of business each display did before determining a winner? Not that I disagreed with Clint’s team’s win — I thought the picture taking idea was bad to start with, so I definitely wasn’t impressed by the middle school bedazzling that Poppy and Stephanie did.
It was interesting that Ivanka got so protective of Brandy in the boardroom. It felt like someone lashing out at a man’s world that has always done her wrong. Am I mistaken, or would she never have experienced that as the boss’ daughter? And I don’t think that Clint and Steuart were wrong to assume — and therefore be disappointed when she fell short — that Brandy should have been able to provide them with a woman’s perspective. I like Brandy, but I can’t believe she denied her lack of contribution in that respect. She did a lot on the task, but she absolutely didn’t deliver when it came to the question of, “Would women be into this.”
I really like this show. I know the story that Brett’s ratings posts tell week after week, but The Apprentice is just a tasty guilty pleasure. It’s so funny, and these characters are so ridiculously entertaining no matter who you’re rooting for or against. Stephanie, who I can’t stand, saying that she thought Don Don was hot, and then asking that the segment be cut from final production (oops); Clint (or someone else on his team) referring to Kim Kardashian as a Hollywood icon — that may have been the funniest part of the season — in their pitch; Kim sending Trump regards from her sister Khloe (see the 2009 season of The Celebrity Apprentice for the irony). It’s not that I want to turn away but I can’t; it’s, “Why would I want to miss this?”
In the end there was no question that Poppy deserved to be — and was — fired. But I have to issue Liza a warning (I realize the season’s been taped already, but still): you can’t keep quiet during a task only to argue vociferously that you disagreed with the project manager’s decisions in the boardroom. You have to lodge those complaints as they come up, then go about your assignment with that objection in your back pocket. The former strategy’s been tried before to no avail … it’s not the way to go.
How is Anand supposed to get a job after being exposed for a cheater? What a waste.

Lucky (or not) for him, Anand was one of the struggling entrepreneurs in the competition. Now, whether potential customers will buy product from a cheater….
I forgot about that. Still, he damaged himself so completely. It would have been better if he had not been on the show.
RE: Your except – I don’t think anyone could have turned Anand in by seeing him on the show since it was taped quite a while ago. Maybe they reclaim the phones at the end of a shooting day and saw the text messages. But to sit there and say no text message was sent and not to have a clue that if it was brought up they must have evidence was probably the dumbest move in reality competition history.
I did like the “Khloe says hello” comment since Trump was such a dick to her when he fired her. She was trying to get her life together, but they allow a train wreck like Dennis Rodman to stay on the show week after week?!?! I guess he was a better train wreck than she was.
And Stephanie HAS to go. She is so annoying. She wants to keep a list of her ideas and then won’t own up to them in the boardroom, unless Trump likes them. Liza does need to voice her opinion to her team instead of to the viewers, but she’s gotten so little respect from anyone that she probably feels it’s not worth the trouble any more. I’m just glad that tacky display did not win. Who wants to take a picture in front of a piece of cardboard like that? Maybe if it was life-sized (I’ve seen kids posing with cardboard Biebers and sparkly vampires at the mall), but what adult still would need a picture with a Kim K cutout? I’m sorry the show isn’t doing as well as it used to, but the celeb edition will probably help it bounce back.

It was a terrible move by Anand to lie, because what did he think Trump was charging him based on? You’re probably right on the phone, but I keep feeling as if we’re seeing NY from this past fall, still summer weather and all. Is there no way they were still competing when they started to air the season? It was a late pick-up by NBC, so maybe they had to scramble? But you’re most likely correct.
The celebrity editions have been a great remake for the show, but I still like these folks. The celebs have nothing on the line … at least regular people “think” they’re chasing a real dream. It’s funny! :)
From what I’ve been able to determine, the casting announcement went up in March of this year (although at one point it was seen online a year earlier before NBC even formally announced the new season of the regular edition), in May the show was officially announced as being on NBC’s schedule without a specific air date. On July 1st, it was officially announced for September to fill in for the delayed Love Bites and the NBC press release said the season had just completed shooting so that would put the actual shoot in June.
The celebrity editions are fun (and they’re allowed to call their friends!), but on the other hand they kind of ruined it for the regular guy wanting to work for Trump – and the viewers now just don’t care about Average Joe.

Thanks! I only knew about it once it hit EW, but I guess it makes sense that lots had happened before then. :)
