PodClack – Episode 25: Neapolitan: An autobiography

In this episode, comedian Jay Black joins Christy T. to talk TV, including 'The Event,' 'Jersey Shore,' 'True Blood' and others, and Jay and Brian talk 'Crimson Tide,' the 'Top Gun' sequel, 'Dirty Dancing' and more.

Welcome back to another episode of our PodClack podcast. Make sure you tune in and make your friends tune in as well, and comment and rate us on our iTunes page!

Every week (or kinda-sorta every week), Brian does a TV guide keyword search based on a word someone leaves in a comment here, so sure you leave a word for Brian’s next movie look-up!

Please keep the comments coming and let us know what you think. Got suggestions? Questions? We’d love to hear ‘em! Make sure you get everyone you know to subscribe to the PodClack in iTunes (and rate us, please!) or via some other feed — we feed Jay’s ego a careful diet of traffic numbers and subscriber count, so let’s not let that sucker die of starvation. You can also check-in via GetGlue!

Thanks for listening!

My God! Did America just get slapped hard in the face with one hour and forty minutes of pulsing podclack — for free?

I think the answer is yes. Christy T., Brian and I are recording early next week, so get your TiVo words and TV show discussion topics in as soon as possible.

Also, we’re trying to grow the show — I have four days off next week before launching into a three week tour of the midwest (Wisconsin in November? Thanks agent who is trying to kill me!) so I’d like to try to swap some spots with other podcasts in order to expand the audience. I need some suggestions from you guys: what other podcasts do you listen to that you’d like to hear us on (and who you’d like to hear on our podcast?) I’ll try to set it up for next week…

And try to be realistic — I like Adam Carolla and Bill Simmons too, but I don’t think they’d be willing to swap a spot with us just yet. I’m looking for podcasts that are a little bit more our size…

Finally, since we’re 25 episodes in, I’d also like to hear your suggestions and feedback about the show. What would you like to see us do more (or less) of?

(And don’t say me. I couldn’t take that. Fine, you can say me, but don’t say it in all caps. That I totally couldn’t take. Or fine, say me, and do it in all caps, but don’t do that thing where you have a bunch of exclamation points, but one of them is a one because you were so angry about my presence on the podcast that you couldn’t hold shift the entire time. You know: !!!!!!1!!!!.

That’s insulting.)

Great podclack as always, love the banter with Christy T. and Brian. Some random things:

– About the hot girls/guys rule, in my case when i meet an incredible looking guy, but when he speaks and you realize he is dumb as a door, i instanly stop been attracted to him… so i’m with Christy in that one, we look for the complete guy, not as good looking, but intelligent and funny.

– About True Blood, when i say that it’s lost it way, im not expecting that they follow the book as a hole (that isn’t much fun after all), but i think that the first season did it right, they put things in it that wasn’t in the book, but they followed the main thread of story, that’s what i expected for rest of the seasons, plus they didn’t create good story lines to replace the book either, they stray from the book for crappy story lines. Christy T. if you have the time read the books!!!

– Thanks for the complements Jay (speacially because you didn’t say nasty things in the middle of it… :), though i must recognaize that my babeness comes more from my geekness than anything.

– I think that Jennifer Gray had a sitcom years ago that lasted like one second, in witch the maine gimmick was that no one recognize her anymore as baby because of her surgery…

– I LOL with Brian’s fake interview to Jay, speacially the question about the sexual harassment charges… and Jay answer to it.

– Fringe is a great series, specially if you like parallel universes (but it doesn’t star that way, they flow to that story line very nicely). Supernatural is great, if you got time to catch up to it do it, is one of few series that actually gets better with time.

– A request that may be too geeky for you, don’t know if they actually aire Death Note over there, it’s a great anime series that would play great with your grey moral ground jay :), and that would follow the Dexter conversation of the previous podclak nicely.

Word for Brian: bill (not that i have an especific movie in mind…)

You know I have a relative who used to work for Obama so if you are trying to get an interview with him, I’m still not the guy who can get that done.

And I knew something good would come out of requesting Jersey Shore. I haven’t really cared about this season because it just seems faker and more scripted. And its because like you pointed out, they completely ignore the fact they are “famous now.”

I’m going to have to agree with Nattyff about True Blood. I liked the first season, but every season just gets cornier.

This comment smacks of astroturfing. I suspect “Brian” of being a paid corporate plant, probably from the tobacco industry or Comcast.

Blue dinosaur? Heh.

Each of my dogs, in succession, was a Chihuahua. The last one lived to be sixteen, and was fortunately both smart and even-tempered. I don’t know how those half-and-halfs that are so popular nowadays turn out, though.

Truthslinger, I was wondering what you, as a comic, thought of Rob Corddry’s Children’s Hospital on Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim block. I found the first two or three episodes tedious (perhaps because I’ve never seen Grey’s Anatomy), but increasingly enjoyed the series as it went on, to the point that it’s now one of the highlights of the week as far as TV comedy goes.

As to the podcast, the only thing I ask would be the occasional third segment with another CliqueClack staffer, talking about whatever they want to discuss. Also, it feels like an age since last we’ve heard from Christina.

Christy, I don’t have the fortitude to stomach the gore on Fringe,Supernatural, or The Walking Dead, but found Syfy’s summer series Haven to be of far better quality than I had initially expected and a superior supernatural/mystery show. Definitely recommended for Netflix streaming once the DVDs are released.

Nattyff, Death Note did air in the U.S. on Adult Swim, and the DVDs were released here as well. It wasn’t to my taste, personally, even though I love Dexter. If the PodClackers haven’t seen anime before, I would suggest starting with something more immediately accessible to Americans, such as Cowboy Bebop or Gundam: 08th MS Team.

Brian, I suspected Crimson Tide might come up, although The Hunt for Red October is one of those movies I can watch over and over again without annoyance.

The 25th year anniversary discussion reminded me that I recently purchased The Last Starfighter on Blu-ray, having not watched it for 10-15 years. It’s a beautiful transfer, and the movie and SFX hold up surprisingly well. So, obviously, the movie keyword is “Last.” Feel free to take a mulligan if The Last Samurai pops up first.

Thanks Brian, glad to see you found the comment section! :-) I’m listening to this crazy podclack while I paint a bedroom. Needless to say, I’ve missed a few spots.
