The recent entries on this week’s DVD list include The Real L Word, and Accidentally on Purpose. And that has us looking to some of the classics for the more interesting offerings. A complete series set for Alias Smith and Jones and the NBC Western TV Legends collection are both good options for western fans. If that’s not your thing, the first season of The Bionic Woman has some nice nostalgia to it. Thinking of the season, Tales from the Darkside fits in well with Halloween right around the corner.
As for the pick of the week, I’m torn. The complete collection of Pee-Wee’s Playhouse is a steal of a deal at Amazon for $32. But I’m once again won over by nostalgia, and have to go with Scooby’s All-Star Laff-A-Lympics. Who wouldn’t want to revisit the antics of the Scooby Doobies, Yogi Yahooeys, and Really Rottens?
Unfortunately, the Pee-Wee’s Playhouse Collection is just a repackaging of the two volumes that have been available for years into one complete set. I’m still holding out for the long-ago promised (like when the episodes first made their debut on DVD) deluxe set with all of the extras that Paul Reubens still claims is being worked on. The only addition to this new collection is the Christmas special which has also been available as a stand-alone piece for several years. There are no additional extras.
Yay!!! My Bionic Woman set should be there when I get home. Happiness!!
