I wrote about my love for the Canadian series Durham County before. It’s quite the hidden gem, especially if you’re in the USA. Oh, it’s made its way to the ION channel much after it premiered in Canada, but … ION? Its first season was stellar. The second season was very good, though it sort-of suffered from the same issues Veronica Mars did in its move to a sophomore season. It simply wasn’t able to match or surpass a mystery that was such a huge part of the main characters in season one, but it was still quality stuff.
It’s been a while since I saw season two, so the other day I got to searching around for the premiere date for the third season. Well, my timing was either impeccable or I caught some subliminal messages from the Great White North. Wouldn’t you know it, not only did I find out season three premieres on the 25th of this month (HBO Canada, 10 PM EST), but the season premiere was made available online yesterday — for free — on HBO Canada’s website. But … it’s for Canadian-based computers only.
I did find a way around it, and anyone techie savvy would probably know how to do it. I thought long and hard about doing a complete how-to here, to allow anyone to bypass the restrictions put in place by the website, but I decided instead I’d just sort of point you in the right direction. If you’re interested enough in moving forward, it should be a breeze.
The info:
There you have it. As a final step: be patient. Sometimes these things slow things down a bit, but at least it works.
I really really wanted to like the show. Everything about it is so amazing: the quality of actors; the cinematography; the dialogue; the interesting plot.
But it took me 3 attempts to get through the first 44-minute episode because of how dark that episode was. Talk about setting a tone! I really felt dead inside watching it. Even the violence in a show like Dexter seems tame by comparison because Dexter’s motivations are not as chaotic.
