When the full story of Chuck and Blair is told, I’m not sure how they will find a way to get past all of the insults they have visited each other over the years. Blair’s actions tonight are, in their own way, almost as bad as Chuck “trading” her for a hotel last season, as it cost Chuck more than either of them have lost before. Between Blair and Eva, then Dan, Nate and Serena, and then just Juliet in general, this week’s Gossip Girl was chock full of drama.
Blair made her bed, and now she’s going to have to sleep in it. For a very quick moment, I thought she had Chuck’s best interests in mind (Truly, though, for a savvy dude, Chuck has had the wool pulled over his eyes several times). Her planting Chuck’s passport was just an act of desperation, almost to the point that had me thinking she might want to get caught, subconsciously or otherwise. She’s smart enough to know that between Ivan and Lily, her actions were not going to stay secret.
Eva’s departure, though, is disappointing. I like the new Chuck, but I do recognize that, at some point, he has to transition back into being Chuck Bass. I’d hoped that Eva would be around for that, and that Chuck would eventually become an amalgamation between the good and the bad, instead of just fully evil. Eva was an interesting influence on him and, especially considering her own checkered past, I think she would have fit in more in NYC than anyone gave her credit for.
Blair and Serena getting along for an entire episode? I’m sure we can probably count the number of times that has happened on one hand. As I’ve said before, these two work better together than as antagonists.
As much as I’m even tired of how Nate and Dan flock to Serena without realizing it, I still think Dan and Serena are a better pair than he and Vanessa do. I actually think, though — especially considering the list Blair dropped last week — that she needs to spend some time in Single-ville. Dan and Vanessa, though, could separate tomorrow, and it wouldn’t hurt my feelings in the least.
I like how they have slowly let Juliet Sharp’s storyline unfold. I am very interested to find out the what and why of her agenda. I think she might have actually told Nate the truth when she identified the guy she was meeting as her brother. At least I hope, because that makes the sleeping-with-Nate thing a little less creepy. Katie Cassidy has been a great addition to the cast, and the longer she sticks around the better.
Notes & Quotes
Hmm. I stopped watching when Chuck stated he planned on giving the $5 million to his girlfriend. If I were a charity organization and a billionaire said rather than read my prospectus, he would give the money to the girl he would write a personal check to the girl he dated for 3 months (and she could decide to give my organization $ or not), I’d belt the stage with tomatoes.
However, I just caught the final bits. Eva had to go, and I’m glad they didn’t drag it out. Plus, I hate when the woman transforms the guy. Clearly, Chuck hadn’t fully transformed if he chose to believe his ex-girlfriend, despite her multiple attempts to discredit his current girlfriend, during the week/that night.
I like Dan/Vanessa together, but I wish she could get some pride and actually stick to it.
Gar. I wrote that late last night. The second sentence should read: “If I were a charity organization and a billionaire said rather than read my prospectus, he would write a personal check to the girl he dated for 3 months (and she could decide to give my organization $ or not), I’d belt the stage with tomatoes.”
