The Big Bang Theory – Dating Blossom, and Howard’s robot hand escapade

I have my own amusing factoid (as Sheldon would say) -- Did you know that since she finished 'Blossom,' Mayim Bialik has actually earned her PhD in neuroscience? It's true! Thus and therefore, she fits in with the show's cast better than the show's cast does! Whoa!

- Season 4, Episode 1 - "The Robotic Manipulation"

Sheldon and Amy on a date ... with Penny

Yes, it’s back! Last night’s cast appearance on The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson was so lacking with its lame Star Trek skit that I feared my favorite geeks might have been eaten by Tribbles or something. Instead, we got to witness Sheldon’s first date ever as that semi-incestuous square-dancing Teens for Jesus thing with his sister really cannot count as a date. Actually, I don’t think it can even count as semi-incestuous. I hope not, anyway.

So Sheldon’s dating Blossom … kind of, sort of. Sheldon and Amy’s (Mayim Bialik) idea of what constitutes a “date” might differ from most of the human race. That said, I did keep expecting Joey to jump in and say, “Whoa! What are you doing with my sister?”

Amy is Sheldon gone woman … er, again it’s one of those kinda, sorta kind of deals. Both Sheldon and Amy are more asexual than sexual creatures. They’re like brains in human decor. Although I’ve always liked the thought of a Penny/Sheldon attraction, Amy is definitely his kind of woman brain.

Since, for all the brains between them, neither drive, Penny did have that date with Sheldon, too. Thus, I was hearkened back to thoughts of another old TV series — Three’s Company. Now if I can just get that theme song out of my head!

Had Penny not gone on the date, I believe that dinner would have been in complete silence. After all, Sheldon only decided to date Amy as they were talking about having their own little test tube baby as their gift to the world to guide humanity to a brighter tomorrow with all of its intelligence. Neither seemed to think actually getting to know each other was necessary. Alas, their dinner conversation turned to Sheldon calculating how many men Penny has dated and how many with whom she’s had sex. Of course, this was in front of Penny. Oy!

In the sideline story, Howard messed with a robot hand he had made for a NASA project. At first it was all a long and convoluted way to fetch Chinese food. But we know Howard. It wasn’t long until the hand was stuck on his penis. While Sheldon, Amy and Penny all had some good lines tonight, the nurse at the emergency room had the lines which made me truly guffaw.  In front of all the folks in the waiting room and over the loudspeaker:

Nurse: “Where’s the rest of the robot? Oh, you only needed the arm,” and then “We need help with a robot hand grasping a man’s penis! We have no code for that.”

It’s kind of obvious she doesn’t know Howard, eh?

In the end, after Penny threatened to tell Sheldon’s mother about the out-of-wedlock test tube baby, he decided not to procreate. And, oh yeah … Howard got the robot hand stuck on his penis once again. It’s great to have them back!

I can’t wait for more evil Wil. And I’m really curious how they are going to incorporate the broken leg. There’s not going to be much praising a higher being for Penny in the next couple of months I guess.

I read that Penny will be written out of the show for a few episodes. I’ll miss the interaction between her and Sheldon, that’s one of the better things about this show.

When I first realized what Howard was going to do with the robot arm, I though to myself “what a dumb story line”. However, those scenes were quite funny.

The moment I saw that robot hand, I immediately knew what Howard was going to do with it. He’s that predictable.

I still don’t get how penny ended up going on the date with them…. wasn’t she just supposed to drop sheldon?

My guess is she was supposed to drop him off at Amy’s & they’d go from there, but since Amy can’t drive either they needed a driver. Why waste gas picking both of them up, dropping off at the restaurant, going home, picking up them up from the restaurant when they’re done, & then taking them both back to their houses when you can just stay?

What old 70’s show was the black nurse helping Howard out, in? She later was Will Smith’s t.v. “mom” on Fresh Prince, please help, driving me crazy?? What was the show and her character?
