Our favorite too-mature-for-their-own-age children of the Upper East Side are back. From gunshots to pregnant surprises, Gossip Girl ended last season with more than a few open questions. How would Chuck survive his mugging? Was Georgina fo realz with her baby? Would Blair implode in Paris? Is Jenny really, really gone (OK, we all know Taylor Momsen is still in the cast, and no offense to the actress, but a guy can hope, right)? Gossip Girl and Gossip Girl are back to dig up all of the dirt.
Blair’s jealousy of Serena is getting a bit tired. It goes without saying that Blair’s fears and frustrations are unjustified. She didn’t find a man in Paris because she’s not yet over Chuck (and never, ever will be). Their inevitable confrontation next week most likely won’t do her any favors in this area, considering how Chuc … er … Henry spent his summer vacation.
Poor Dan Humphery. Is he a father before his time? Or just another victim in the wake that is Georgina Sparks? I’m not sure where this story is going (I’m not even sure I know where I want this story to go). Georgina’s Russian (which sounded like a good accent to this untrained ear) does raise one’s curiosity, no? Is Georgina actually doing the right thing by leaving young Milo with his father? Doubt it.
For a quick second, I actually liked this Nate/Juliet pairing, even after the first revelation that she was faking who she was. However, when the camera panned to her “big board,” my opinion of the whole situation changed in a heartbeat. My first reaction was that she was going to turn out to be some kind of Serena stalker (scary and, not for nothing, boring). After taking a better look at the board, though, I’m guessing that Juliet Sharp (or whatever her real name may be) is writing a book (if a picture of Georgina wasn’t conspicuously absent, I’d say that Juliet was looking for our favorite home wrecker). I’m looking forward to the drama that Nate is about to inadvertently bring into his circle of friends.
This is probably one of those things that you should just accept and move on, but I’m trying to wrap my head around how Gossip Girl works in Paris. Are there kids from Constance just hanging around the City of Lights spying on S and B? Wouldn’t these folks be better served back in NYC filling everyone in on the baby mama drama? I doubt, under normal circumstances, that the fruit of Georgina’s and Dan’s loins wouldn’t be front-page news.
I’m withholding judgment, and comment, on anything Chuck related until next week. I almost thing we’d have been better off not getting the little sneak peak at the end of the episode, and just letting the mystery of his summer last just a bit longer. Regardless, expect fireworks when he and Blair reunite.
Notes & Quotes
I’m not a huge Vanessa fan, but her “Georg-ina” line was the best one in the show.
